How to Have the Ultimate Cosy Night In.

The days are short and very, very cold. Night comes earlier and earlier, and, if you are a bear, you’ve already made the sensible decision and hibernated for the duration of the Winter. But although hibernation is not an option for most folk, we can make the most of the dark and cold by enjoying cosy night’s inside, where we can snuggle up with our loved ones and enjoy all the peace and slumber, with a classic movie, our favourite loungewear, good food and drink, and all the warmth and comfort you find in front of the fire.

Here are some of the main ingredients you need in order to have the perfect, cosy night in.

A Good Film

It may still be a little too early for the Christmas films, but now is certainly a good time to watch a classic feelgood movie. I personally love the classic movies of Hollywood’s golden age, whether it be ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Gone with the Wind’ or ‘All about Eve’. Another great choice for cold, stormy nights is one of the classic Alfred Hitchcock thrillers. Watching the new Mrs De Winter as she arrives at Mandeley in ‘Rebecca’ is possibly the perfect movie to watch as the night’s draw in, even if you do watch some of it through your fingers…

Get Cuddly in your clothing

Winter is all about being warm and cosy, especially when the weather outside is anything but. Discard the bra and really throw off the day by opting for some soft jersey loungewear, a fluffy dressing gown and a pair of your favourite slippers. Slippers that keep your feet snug and warm do not have to be expensive, you can pick up cheap slippers that cost less than the average Costa coffee, but give you so much more in terms of long term comfort.

Food and Drink

When it comes to a cosy night in, the food and drink you choose should be of the comfort variety. Hot chocolate with marshmallows and squirty cream, mulled wine, anything containing Baileys, any sort of toddy, these are the perfect drink options for cold evenings. Add in dial a pizza, which is the number one food to accompany movie night, and you have all the key ingredients for a blissful night in.

Add a throw or blanket.

No matter how warm or cosy your home is, there are a few accessories that can put the capital C in Cosy. A soft fleecy throw or blanket to cover your legs as you cuddle up to your loved one, or your child is integral to your cosy night in. Fairy lights or any sort of soft lighting can also add to the mood in the room. And don’t forget to shut those curtains, you really need to leave Winter outside so you can bask in the warm glow you have created in your home.

The idea of the cosy night in almost makes me happy about the coming of Winter. When the weather turns cold, the very best thing you can do is embrace it by getting cosy.

Retro Movie Night

Everyone enjoys a good movie night. You take a classic film, get the perfect cinema snacks – the Popcorn, the Pringles, the fizzy drinks and a group of your favourite people, and you enjoy all the fun of the cinema in your own home. I recently hosted my own retro movie night, based on the regular movie nights hosted by Sunrise Senior Living, a trusted Care Home Provider who have a care home in Solihull, these are a regular event with residents’ families to invited to attend. Favourite movies are a great way to bring people of all generations together, united in the love of a great, classic film.

For my movie night I chose the film All About Eve. Now, this is a favourite of both my mom and I, a 1950s Oscar winning classic starring the inimitable Bette Davies in one of her most famous roles as Margo Channing. Tie in an early, eye-catching cameo from Marilyn Monroe, and an acerbic, scene stealing performance from George Sanders, and you have movie perfection. I was excited to find out that my other guests, my husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law had never seen the film, and had no clue what it was all about. All I could say is ‘Fasten your seatbelts, it’s gonna be a bumpy night.’

A movie night is a great way to bring people together, I invited my parents, my sister and brother-in-law and my father-in-law. We had a Chinese takeaway first, and then snacked all the way through. The general consensus was that the film was a hit (phew!), with a great twist ending, and everyone seemed to enjoy the night of movie fun. There was even a bit of a poll for what film would be good to watch next time, with 80s classic Top Gun rating quite highly.

Making the Most of a Night to Yourself

As most moms known only too well, finding time to relax when you have younger kids can be difficult at the best of times. This is why every mom should seize the opportunity to relax and unwind if they do find themselves with the chance to enjoy a night alone without the kids.
While we all love our children, having the occasional night off to unwind can do us the world of good. There are many different ways in which you can relax and enjoy some ‘me time’ from the comfort of your own home, so you can really make the most of the chance to kick back and put yourself first for a change.
Some great ideas for a relaxing evening

If you are lucky enough to get a night to yourself, there are some great ways in which you can enjoy some relaxation and fun. Some of these include:

Enjoy a movie night: Trying to get anywhere near the remote control when you have kids around can be difficult, as we all know. So, if you do have a night in on your own take the opportunity to settle down with a mix of your favourite movies. You can really make a night of it by cracking open a bottle of wine, treating yourself to a pizza, and then settling down in front of the TV to enjoy all those DVDs that you rarely get time to watch when you have the kids around.

Play some games: If you want to enjoy some fun and excitement, you can indulge in a little gaming on your night off. You can use your computer, tablet or even your smartphone to enjoy a range of games from popular games such as Triple Town or Monopoly through to thrilling casinos games such as those at Lucky Nugget Casino. You can download the range of mobile games with ease with Lucky Nugget, enabling you to enjoy an exciting casino experience from the comfort of your own home.
Chill with a bubble bath: When you have the kids to look after, a relaxing bubble bath is usually out of the question. However, when you have some time alone you can forego the quick shower and instead enjoy a wonderfully relaxing experience with a bath filled with scented bubbles and even some aromatherapy oils. Light a few scented candles for an even more chilled experience and then let the stress ooze away as you enjoy a well-deserved long soak.

Read a book: Reading is something that can be tremendously relaxing, as you are able to escape for a while as you immerse yourself in another world. However, a busy mom rarely has time to sit down and enjoy getting stuck into their favourite book. This is something you can remedy if you have time to yourself without the children, as you can put your feet up and enjoy a good read in the knowledge that you won’t be disturbed every five minutes.

Put on your favourite music: With the house empty and plenty of time to yourself, this is the perfect time to pop on your favourite tunes and enjoy relaxing to some music. Whether you are into classical music, pop, jazz, rock or any other genre, at least you know that you will be able to enjoy your music in peace and quiet!
All of these provide great ways to enjoy some downtime in your own company when you have time to yourself without the children.
