Happy 10th Birthday Selfridges Birmingham

It is hard to believe, But the iconic Selfridges store in Birmingham celebrated its 10th birthday this week. And, of course, being Selfridges, it celebrated with a seriously stylish party, complete with mouth-watering cocktails and canapes, and some seriously quirky entertainment.

It is hard to even imagine Birmingham without the stunning Selfridges Building, as much a part of the city skyline as The Rotunda, The BT Tower or St Martin’s in the Bullring. The Moet Bar on the top floor has become a real destination, and so was the perfect setting for the birthday celebrations. General manager Vicki Cain gave a lovely speech to kick off proceedings detailing some exciting new developments for the store, and then guests were treated to a special performance by Operatic drag queen Le Gateau Chocolat, who had a powerful voice and a great line in black prom dresses!

With Mojitos served rustic style in mini glass jars and stripy retro straws, Cosmos and Champers, delicious mini ice cream cones and a bar brimming with Oysters, Selfridges threw a party their way, and completed the night by gifting all guests a stunning Diptyque candle.

A truly amazing night – here’s to the next 10 years!

PaperShaker Cards enable you to get creative

Have you visited Papershaker cards yet? Papershaker is a new site that is dedicated to helping you create the perfect stationary for special occasions. Whether you are looking for birth announcement cards, thank you cards for wedding gifts, or some form of invitation, Papershaker has a design to appeal to every taste. What is more, you can add personalisation to create a truly unique design.

One of the brilliant things about Papershaker is that you can add your own photographs to any of the designs you choose.  If you are choosing personalised wedding invitations, you could actually add a picture of you and your beloved to the invite, making it something that is truly special and unique to you. This is also a lovely touch that can be added to the baby thank you cards that can be sent out to say thank you for gifts after the birth of a baby. By adding an image the card becomes something to treasure and keep, rather than a throwaway object.

I recently created some thank you cards for my sister, who has recently become a mother to a very gorgeous little girl. I started with the little lady design above, which I thought was a very cute, girly design.I then adapted it by adding a picture of Renee, changing the size of the image and the background colour. You can then add relevant details to the back of the card.

Papershaker is also the perfect destination to pick up personalised party invitations. In particular, the kids party invitations are second to none. You can simply choose an age appropriate design and add the party details, or again, you can personalise your card by adding a photograph or image of your choice. I have Joe’s 5th birthday coming up in December, so I have been putting my design together for his party. I chose the robot design which I think is perfect for a little boy, but decided to change the photographs to include some of my little boy.

I think PaperShaker is a great way of producing something that little bit special to commemorate your family occasions. With cards costing as little as 75p each, these are affordable luxuries. You can also purchase sample cards so you can see just how great they look before you purchase in bulk.

Happy 40th Birthday Browns Bar and Brasserie

Browns Bar and Brasserie  has been celebrating its 40th birthday this year, with a series of stylish parties taking place at branches all over the country. I was lucky enough to join in the celebrations after receiving an invitation to the Birmingham restaurant’s party, and I had a truly wonderful night.

I was lucky enough to have been invited to the opening of Browns Birmingham a couple of years ago, and became a fan of the restaurant then. The relaxed atmosphere, stylish decor and great food makes this a great destination for special occasions, or just for a girlie lunch and a gossip with friends. The birthday event was a great opportunity to try some of the signature dishes in the form of delicious canapes, with the mini Yorkshire Pudding and roast beef being particularly good. Another gorgeous, and rather sweet idea, was a mini afternoon tea served on a tiny plate, complete with scone and cream, and tiny sandwiches with the crust removed.

I took my sister as my guest for the occasion. She had never been to Browns and was really impressed with the restaurant.  The hosts delivered a really nice evening that was a great opportunity to sample a couple of new cocktails, whilst enjoying a chat with friends. There was also lovely background music provided by a live band, giving the evening a lively feel.

with my sister and blogger Emily Jayne

There was an eclectic group of people invited as guests, from food bloggers to seasoned customers of Browns. Everyone seemed to agree that it was a great night. The Highlight of the evening was a stunning cake, complete with  monochrome icing and piano key theme.

I had a wonderful time at Browns and would fully recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal and a pleasant evening in  Birmingham.

Many thanks to Elizabeth Davies for the invitation.
