Fashion World Review – Lace Skater Dress

It’s the final stretch, I have only 7 days left of being in the flirty thirties and then I officially enter the naughty forties. I have to say it’s not something I entirely relish. I loved my thirties far more than my twenties, it’s the decade that saw me get married, become a mom, reach a pinnacle in one career, and then change it for something entirely different. It saw me continue to travel, interview some famous people, achieve many things from the bucket list and basically have a lot of fabulous times that I will never, ever forget. But life supposedly begins at forty, and so I’m ready to embrace the new decade with a lot of lovely fashion reviews. I’m starting with, you’ve guessed it, a dress.

The dress in question is an absolute beauty. The Lace Skater dress from Fashion World is something that is slightly removed from my dress comfort zone – namely because it is a skater dress, and I usually opt for straight, pencil skirt shapes. I adore pink, but it is not a colour I usually choose – I tend to be less adventurous and stick to less showy shades. But this dress was something that I fell in love with at first glance, and so when Fashion World offered me the chance to review something from their fabulous (and huge) website, this was the dress for me!

DSCN7610[1]I love this dress so much. It is the easiest thing in the world to wear as it is just so comfortable. It has no zips or fastenings, you literally pull it on over your head and voila, you’re ready to go. The lace is so pretty, but not revealing, with a full underskirt style lining and a sweetheart style lining under the bodice. The dress is also super stretchy, with an hidden, elasticated panel on the back of the waistband. I loved that it sat prettily just on the knee, my fave length, and was definitely the sort of dress perfect for swirling and twirling in, which makes it the perfect choice for any summer party.

DSCN7604[1]I think this dress is so pretty, it doesn’t really need much in the way of accessories. I just added Vivienne Westwood Melissa shoes and a vintage handbag. I wore this dress to a birthday party on Friday night where a friend was celebrating turning 30 (grrrr!) and I really enjoyed wearing it – that shade of hot pink makes it such a fun dress. I have also wore it for a night at the theatre with a black blazer over it, and that look seemed to work too.

With huge thanks to Jay Tavernor at Fashion World for the wonderful dress.

Reviewed – Wallis Red Daisy Fit and Flare dress

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about my favourite picks from the new season pieces at Wallis. (You can read that post here.) The pieces I was most drawn to were the 1940s style tea dresses that came in a range of colours, and were floral and feminine.

The lovely people at Wallis offered to send me one of the dresses to review, and I opted for the bright prettiness of the Red Daisy Fit and Flare dress. This was one that had caught my eye from the start. I love bright colours and prints, and this dress definitely had a real feel of springtime about it. I was really looking forward to wearing it.

This is a beautiful dress. The style is semi fitted, with the top more structured than the loose, flared style skirt. There is a zip fastening on the back, and a removable tie belt that you could replace with something thicker if you wanted to. (I think a patent style belt would look great with this.) The sleeves are capped style, but they are not tight fitting and so the dress is perfectly comfortable to wear.

When I wore this dress for review, the weather was still on the chilly side, so I added opaque tights and a chunky heeled shoe – it certainly wasn’t time for bare legs yet. I think this gives the dress a cute, Zooey Deschanel style feel to it.  But this dress would look great with bare legs and sandals come warmer days, and could also look fabulous as a work dress if you added a tailored black (or white) blazer to the look. A fluffy cardigan and Mary Janes could also give this dress the fabulous 40s style retro look that the design suggests so well.

All in all, I think this is a really pretty dress that can easily take you from Spring and summer, and from daytime wear to a trip to the pub. With a lovely, elegant shape, this is easy to wear and would be easy and light to pack for summer holidays.

Military Stud Detail Dress from Fashion World

You can’t have failed to notice that suddenly online shopping has become extremely exciting if you fit into the realms of what is labelled the ‘plus size’. In what was once a very narrow market (let’s be honest, we were just talking about Evans in general) there are now a great many online ranges that cater for the size 16+ market. And these stores are stocking far more than just the basics and what could be categorised under the smock/tunic/tent range.

Fashion World is one such site. I was recently approached to see if I would be interested in reviewing a product from Fashion World and was so happily surprised by how extensive the choice was. As a women who feels most comfortable in dresses it was akin to being let loose in a sweet shop, there were just so many styles, colours and trends to choose from. I finally chose a dress that was just slightly outside my comfort zone.

The Military Stud Detail dress is the perfect day to evening dress. The stud detailing around the neckline adds an edgy detail which means this would look great with a leather biker jacket thrown over, whilst the slight stretch in the dress allows a little extra breathing space if you wear it for an evening out involving a slap-up meal with desert. The khaki colour way adds to the military feel of what is a sexy bodycon style dress, with the black sleeves and faux style pocket detail adding interest to the look.

I really love this dress. It is comfortable to wear and is the sort of dress you feel good wearing. I added a shoeboot on this occasion, but the dress would easily cope with adding a sexier heel for evening wear. I liked the knee length which makes it a great option for daywear (I’ve worn it for a business meeting as well), and this is the sort of dress that gets lots of positive comments. This is the perfect choice if you would look to try a bodycon style, but have been unsure if it was for you. This is a fabulous comprimise – bodycon look without being ultra tight and clingy.
