The 2014 BAFTA’s – Key Looks

The days when the BAFTA’s were an also-ran awards ceremony have long since gone. These days the stars turn out in force for the British Academy awards ceremony, and this means a feast for the fashion lovers eye.

This year saw a Hollywood who’s who roll call walking the red carpet. Brad and Angelina, Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams, Leonardo Di Caprio, Lupita Nyong’o, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Uma Thurman and Maggie Gyllenhall all turned out to add a glittering presence. Add in British stars like Naomie Harris, Samantha Barks and Helen Mirren, and the night was guaranteed to have sartorial looks on display that would have set tongues wagging.

Here are some of the key looks from the night. My personal faves were Lupita Nyong’o (again, but I’m making absolutely no apologies for this – she looked flawless in Emerald green Dior) and Samantha Barks, who opted for a simple, elegant column dress that was just so chic, albeit a little long.

Cate Blanchett opted for Alexander McQueen. It was a nice dress, but I have to admit to being a little underwhelmed with this. However, I loved her speech, which was a touching tribute to Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and I did then wonder if the sombre dress was a tribute too.

There was a part of me that thought that the matchy-matchy tuxedo look was a bit like the Beckham’s in the bad old days, but this is Angelina Jolie, and with her sex appeal, this just looked super sexy, especially with that louche untied Dickie bow.

Joely’s dress wasn’t to all taste, but the 1973 Bob Mackie dress (which I can so picture 1970s Cher wearing) was one that I loved. Amazing colour and, with the sunburst pattern, it also reminded me of an Art Deco piece.

One word – perfection.

I wasn’t actually sure of this dress from the photographs. It seemed a little stiff, a little schoolmarm-ish. But this is one of those dresses that you need to see from all angles, because when Amy stepped onto that stage, showing the sexy back zips in all their glory – then I fell in love with this look.

Did you have a favourite look from the BAFTA  ceremony?
