The Little Book Of Alice From Welbeck Publishing

A few weeks ago I was reading the latest David Walliams book, ‘Slime’ with Joe. The lead character Ned exclaimed ‘curiouser and curiouser’. I asked Joe, do you know the famous book that is taken from. ‘Of course I do, it’s Alice in Wonderland’ he said.

More than 150 years after publishing, Alice in Wonderland is not only a classic of English literature, it is also a cult of fabulous, endlessly repeated quotes. It has also spawned a cottage industry of spin offs, from the musical Wonderland, to a whole host of tea parties and tea party treasures. But The Little Book of Alice – Wonderland’s Wit and Wisdom, may just be the best gift for an Alice fan, as it is not only full of those wonderful, witty quotes, but they are also accompanied by the original John Tenniel drawings from the Lewis Carroll classic.

The book is one of the Welbeck Publishing ‘Little books’ (I reviewed The Little Book of England here) and is a beautiful edition, a hard back book that is small in statue, but containing plenty of pages – 192 to be exact, each containing a range of quotes and riddles from the notoriously quotable text. Throughout there are the exquisite original  pencil illustrations of all the key characters, Alice, The Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Mock Turtle and many more.

The quotes are funny and sometimes very true, it seems that the characters from Alice often have a point, even if it is an idiotic, off the wall one. If you know someone who is a fan of Alice in Wonderland, then this is the perfect little gift that they would be delighted with, it is truly sweet and lovely and will always raise a smile.

The Little Book of Alice has an rrp of £5.99 and can be found here.
