The Met Gala – My best dressed

It is probably the most glamorous fashion event of the year, and this year again proved that when the world’s of Hollywood, fashion and modelling combine, you are sure of some totally standout looks, along with a couple you’d rather forget.

This year’s theme was Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, which ensured there would be a sea of Prada on display, along with a wonderful tribute to Schiaparelli’s famous Lobster print dress worn by Anna Wintour. There were plenty of other gowns to tantalise the fashion taste buds.

These are my favourites from a wonderfully glamorous night.

Carey Mulligan looked like a wonderfully space aged Judy Jetson in this stunning metallic scale gown  from Prada.I love everything about it, the mixture of metallics, the 50s style silhouette, her cute Elvis mini quiff hairdo. I think this was total perfection.

January Jones has been a bit hit and miss lately in the style stakes, but this zesty lemon gown was perfect for her, and I loved how she accessoried with turquoise. It also had a peplum shape making it bang on trend. A return to form I think.

Michael Kors was well represented by Hilary Swank and Jessica Alba. I particularly loved Jessica Alba in a dress that made her look like a beautiful Oscar. Old Hollywood – Veronica Lake hair completed the look.

There was something about Rihanna that reminded me of the baddie from the film Species – a sci-fi villainess, but I did love this ultra glamorous look from Tom Ford. The hair, on the other hand, seemed to be styled like Mickey Mouse ears.

Lana Del Rey was another favourite of mine in a gorgeous dramatic look from Joseph Altuzarro. I loved the drama of the sheer cape, a nod to another music goddess, Madonna, maybe?

Gwyneth Paltrow has been one of my best dressed this year, and this sexy, short 1960s style dress from Prada shows that this Gwyneth is now a million miles away from the weeping girl in the ill-fitting pink dress, who won an Oscar despite crimes to fashion.

Emma Roberts is showing real potential as a future style icon, and this choice of bright yellow from Escada was wonderful, especially when teamed with a colour clash skinny blue belt.

Camilla Belle absolutely shone in a beautiful Jazz age dress from Ralph Lauren. This was just so elegant, and with her sleek hair and dramatic make-up, she was a true standout.

Michelle Dockery made an unusual choice in her colour combination of black and gold Ralph Lauren. This is a dress Lady Mary would be proud of, but I wish she had left off those black gloves which make her seem like she is about to commit a Downton Murder…

Solange Knowles was the undoubted winner of the Knowles girls battle at the Met. Whilst Beyoncé looked like an over elaborate showgirl in gothic black and lace, Solange kept her look on trend in a strapless peplum dress that fitted her like a glove. Kudos to Rachel Roy for producing such a wonderful look.

Poppy Delevigne showed that a classic black and white Chanel dress will always look timeless and elegant. This dress just stood out amongst the sea of shimmery fabrics and feathers.

Kirsten Dunst also stood out – I thought her Rodarte two piece was a 1930s original, maybe belonging to Wallis Simpson, and I think this was fabulous as a celebration of Schiaparelli styling.

Emily Blunt kept it cool and simple in Calvin Klein. It may not have been the dressiest look, but I love the simplicity of this look and am totally besotted with Emily at the moment.

Greta Gerwig also channelled 1930s movie star style in a gorgeous emerald bias cut gown by Prabal Gurung.  I love that she kept her neckline bare to allow the beauty of the dress  to speak for itself.

Eva Mendes went for a fabulous tangerine orange embellished gown from Prada that was a wonderfully vibrant and fun choice. Again, the peplum was out in force, proving that this 1980s fashion staple beloved of Princess Diana is back to stay.

Clare Danes can do no wrong at the moment in my eyes, she is Carrie Mathison after all. Her J Mendal white dress was simple in its elegance, and with her hair in a Bardot style beehive she was definitely a best dressed contender.

So,these are my choices.  Who got your vote for Best dressed? Let me know by leaving a comment below.x
