The Rise And Rise of Korean Beauty
In recent years, there has most definitely been a shift when it comes to beauty and skincare. In the past, our cosmetic choices and skincare heroes seemed to be taken from the big brands like L’Oreal, and from the French fashion and beauty houses that promised quality and exceptional products bought at, let’s face it, often extortionate prices. Those much coveted beauty products like Touche Eclat from Yves Saint Laurent were aspirational, and for many, particularly teenage and young women, were also out of the price range.
But in recent years there has definitely been a shift when it comes to make up and beauty/skincare. The rise of the beauty bloggers and beauty influencers have seen new kids on the beauty block, and new cult buys and beauty heroes. One of the most successful of the new trends has been the rise of Korean Beauty products like those from Beauty of Joseon. This is an affordable, yet effective beauty brand that covers all aspects, from serums to moisturisers, sunblocks to toners, and has some really appealing fruit fragranced products that also make them a perfect choice for younger, and more sensitive skin.
So why has K-Beauty, a little bit like the rise of K-Pop, become just so popular?
As reported by news network CNN, the Korean beauty market is among the top 10 around the world, with an estimated worth of over $13.1 billion in sales in 2018, according to Mintel, a global market intelligence agency. K-Beauty offers new and innovative products that test new ingredients and formulas, and have been shown to get some remarkable results. There is also an emphasis on using natural formulas, which certainly appeals to a new, younger generation that have been put off by the heavily perfumed, highly synthetic products that have ruled in the past. Added to this the fact that Korean Beauty is often very affordable, and you have a unique selling point that is hard to beat.
So, if you want to try Korean Beauty, where should you start?
I always think the best place to start is with moisturiser, it is one product that most of us use, even if we fail to use anything else. There are some brilliant moisturisers that are suitable for all skin types and all ages, and are ultimately an affordable beauty treat. I love Anua Peach 77% Niacin Enriched Cream which not only smells amazing, but is also a brilliant source of hydration for parched skin, and the range of products from Cosrx, a range that I have been a fan of for a few years, particularly their Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream.
K-Beauty is fun, innovative and affordable. It is definitely worth giving it a try.
