That being said, many of us would love to shed a few pounds, and most of us have tried and failed multiple times. Life sometimes feels like one long diet, and the results vary over time! The holiday season is rapidly approaching, so this is probably the right time to abandon your diet plan if it isn’t working for you. We’ve been looking at the most popular diets that are being practiced at the moment and identified what we feel are the top five, which we’ll outline for you here. Be aware, though – there is no such thing as a miracle diet. No diet is a substitute for exercise, and no diet will work without exercise. If you really want to lose weight, the only method that comes with a guarantee is expending more calories than you ingest. A good diet can help, but exercise will make it more effective!
Different types of diet work differently for different people. If other diets seem like a short term fix or a fad, you might be more interested in the volumetrics diet. Don’t expect to see sharp short-term losses if you go with this option – it’s definitely a marathon as opposed to a sprint. The Pegan Diet
Last year, celebrities and influencers bored us to death with the Paleo diet, which was supposedly based on eating only the foods that were available to our stone-age ancestors. In 2020, things are about to be taken a step further by the so-called Pegan diet. If you’re not already a vegetarian, you may struggle with this. In basic terms, it’s the same as the Paleo diet, but with all the meat options taken out. The name comes from the fact that it’s both Paleo and vegan. Nuts, seeds, avocados, and olive oil are the staple foods of this diet. It’s almost certainly effective in terms of helping you to shed unwanted weight, but it’s also enormously restrictive when it comes to what you’re actually allowed to eat. Not only are fish and dairy out of the question, but everything has to be organic. That can make it as expensive as it is difficult.
Intermittent Fasting
When is a diet not a diet? When you can eat what you want, but you do it at specific times. There are no dietary requirements when it comes to intermittent fasting – just restrictions on when you’re allowed to eat. For two days in each week – which must not be back-to-back days under any circumstances – people who observe intermittent fasting eat just one small meal, with a maximum calorie limit of 500. Outside of those days, eat whatever you like, whenever you feel like doing it. The idea behind it is that your body burns so much fat in those fasting days that it doesn’t matter what happens in the other five days. Not everyone can do this, though – if you find yourself feeling weak or faint, stop immediately and give something else a try.
The Mediterranean Diet
Have you ever noticed that people who live in the Mediterranean look healthier and happier than the rest of us – and also seem to live longer? There has to be a reason for that, and it can’t just be the weather. Perhaps it’s down to what they’re eating. You can find out for yourself by giving the Mediterranean Diet a try. It’s probably the best-tasting option on the list other than the option of intermittent fasting – you get a healthy balance of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and Omega-3 rich fish. Aside from helping you to cut weight, this diet has also been credited with lowering cholesterol levels and therefore reducing the risk of heart problems in later life. There’s not enough scientific evidence to confirm that a Mediterranean diet can cure all your ills, but there’s certainly no harm in giving it a try.
Whatever you do, remember that the most important habit to carry into 2020 is loving yourself for who you are. Life is too short to overly concern ourselves with what we see in the mirror.
