Trends in Men’s Jewellery

Once upon a time, a man’s jewellery box was a pretty lonely place. The odd ring might’ve resided in there, maybe a crucifix or a St Christopher on a chain, the acceptable necklaces for men, and there would usually be a watch of some variety, but that would basically be it. Jewellery was the preserve of women (and magpies) and real men avoided it. Let’s face it, some men didn’t even bother to wear a wedding ring,

But times really do change, and these days you only have to pick up a celebrity magazine to realise that men’s jewellery is not only on trend and totally desirable, but is big business too. There are luxury jewellery brands that are totally dedicated to men’s style, brands like Tateossian London who take materials like leather, titanium and silver and create pieces that are both elegant and masculine at the same time. Celebrities like Pharell Williams, Johnny Depp and Chris Hemsworth all enjoy wearing jewellery as part of a edgy style look, from chains and cruxifixes around the neck, to rope style bracelets and leather bracelets that can be stacked or worn individually.

Another clear trend in men’s jewellery is Hip Hop Jewelry. In the 1980’s this trend emerged with the likes of Run DMC, Public Enemy, and the Beastie Boys making thick chains, ostentatious gold and silver designs, and large sovereign style rings de rigour for wear with quite casual styling looks of trainers, plaid, baggy shirts and ripped jeans. These styles have continued to find favour with the hip hop community and have also moved into mainstream fashion too with iced Out pendents are the best jewellery that works well with street wear looks.

But the rise of the men’s jewellery trend is not just limited to the edgy, more outre styles. The king of men’s jewellery, in my opinion, is David Beckham, who has sported bracelets, stud earrings and crucifix style necklaces and chains. But Beckham is also renowned for his sharp sartorial styles that include the ultimate in men’s tailoring and grooming. He wears a suit like a dream, complete with a tie, and Beckham’s ties are always decorated with a tie pin, a rather formal, traditional accessory that he makes so on trend.

Even pins and brooches are no longer the confines of ladies. David Beckham is featured above wearing a pin, whilst when he was at Arsenal, Olivier Giroud decorated his smart attire with an Arsenal pin worn on a lapel.
