Wallis new collection – Everybody says ‘Jump!’
Fashion-Mommy has been enjoying the chance to review the new High Street collections this week. Wallis is the next Spring/Summer collection that I am going to share with you, and this is best exemplified with the word ‘JUMP!’ Jumpsuits are really big news at Wallis this season, and they come in a whole range of designs that suit every occasion, mood and style influence. Whether you enjoy the disco style of Chloe Sevigny, the high fashion look of Leighton Meester or the cool chic elegance of Cate Blanchett, there is something to suit everyone. Here are a few of my favourite looks, along with the style icon I am reminded of.
Look 1 – Carolyn Bessette Kennedy – A New York State of Mind.
The late Carolyn Bessette Kennedy understood the power of minimalism. The cool, elegant, blonde never flashed the flesh, instead going for timeless, understated looks, often using a monochrome pallet. This jumpsuit puts me in mind of Carolyn, crisp and white, simple yet devastating. A modern classic.
Look 2 – Chloe Sevigny – The Last days of disco.
Chloe Sevigny is a style maverick. A style rebel, she takes risks, but usually gets it spot on. One of my favourite films is ‘The Last Days of Disco’. This was a late 1990’s film which showed the end of the Studio 54 superclub era. I think this Wallis Chartreuse jumpsuit would be perfect for any modern-day disco divas. The amazing colour and cut would make you stand out in any crowd and ties into this seasons obsession with all things 70s. Add a colour clashing clutch bag…and a pair of roller boots, if you’re really daring!
Look 3 – Kate Moss – London Cool.
Kate Moss is another icon who enjoys wearing jumpsuits. Sleek black is her look of choice, and this Wallis jumpsuit fits the bill just perfectly. I can imagine Kate wearing this with her hair in a simple bun, smoky kohl on her eyes and hoop earrings.
Look 4- Cate Blanchett – a modern-day Marlene Dietrich.
Cate Blanchett follows a long line of style icons like Marlene Dietrich, Charlotte Rampling, Patti Smith and Tilda Swinton, who have taken mannish tailoring and turned it into a feminine ideal. Cate wore this look recently and looked totally feminine and beautiful, but with an air of tomboyish tailoring. I think she would look totally fabulous in this Wallis black jumpsuit, which has a 1930s tailored style.
Look 5 – Leighton Meester – Gossip Girl Style.
Leighton Meester is one of fashion’s new risk takers. Opinions are divided about the Gossip Girl’s personal style, but no-one can deny she has a strong presence on any Red Carpet. Leighton loves bright colours and vibrant prints, so I think she would look great in the colourful, strapless affair from the Wallis new season collection.
