One Tiny Penguin Is Coming Soon
One Tiny Penguin is the third show in Birmingham Hippodrome’s My First Musical series, following the 5-star hits No Such Thing As Wolves and The Jingleclaw. The My First Musical Series is designed to bring the youngest viewers into the theatre, with shows that are bright and colourful, shorter than an average show, and taking place in the smaller, more intimate Patrick Centre, making them perfect for family viewing.
I went to the launch event for this show earlier this month and can confirm it look like absolutely adorable Christmas fun. It has singalong songs that are perfect for little ones, and the penguin himself, Lumi, is absolutely gorgeous, and will charm one and all. The plot is simple to follow, and has all the Christmas feels, perfect to add to the excitement of the upcoming festive season.
Every year a great big polar bear is chosen to light up the Northern Lights. This year, the special job falls to Lumi, but there’s a small problem, he’s not a polar bear at all. He’s just One Tiny Penguin! So now Lumi must gather all his courage to travel the world, venturing out from the North Pole, to Chile, South Africa – and all the way to the South Pole. Can the new friends Lumi makes along the way help him find out what it means to be a brave penguin and light up the sky?
The talented cast are just wonderful, Dylan Collymore (Shrek: The Musical) as Lumi, joined by Sarah Palmer (The Koala Who Could) as Eira, Benedict Hastings (101 Dalmatians The Musical) as Sky, Sam Denia(Stereophonic) as Pablo and Clara Abdilla Joslin, making her professional debut as Bonola.
The show opens on Saturday 5th December, and each performance lasts for one hour. It is recommended for ages 3+. You can find ticket information and show times here.
