End of the Month Shoe Lust

Tomorrow will be the 1st of May, so for many of you, today is the last day of the month, and that means payday, and the time for a special treat! This is probably why, after browsing on shoe websites for a couple of hours, I felt a real compulsion to theoretically fill my virtual basket with the sort of shoes that I would buy if money was no object.

Shoes are a bit of an addiction for me. I have more pairs than I need, many of them that never get worn, being too small, too big, too uncomfortable, too tight or too high. But I would never part with them, still reveling in their beauty, thinking one day, maybe, they will actually leave the house on my feet. Shoes can be more than something you wear – they can be a work of art that just makes you happy.(Shallow – yes, but definitely true.)

So these shoes that I have selected today are a little impractical, but most definitely beautiful and almost in the category of works of art. There are the scented gorgeousness of the Vivienne Westwood Melissa’s and the sexy streamlined kitten heeled, metallic toed See by Chloe designs. There are super high heels from Guess in a snake print that would just compliment every summer outfit in Studio 54 style, and then there is the Parisian chic of  the monochrome Ava sandals from Sonia Rykiel.

Total Shoe Heaven!

New Look has spring dresses all sewn up

The lastest collection of dresses from New Look shows how the High Street brand is going from strength to strength. From flowing maxi styles, to cute TOWIE-esque skater dresses, New Look proves that this season, any length is allowed. But it is the midi dresses that really catch the eye. For so long this was a length that only the tallest and slimmest of ladies tackled, with a view that on anyone else, the midi was a frumpy option.

We are now beginning to realise that this is wrong, and that, in the same way as the maxi dress can suit anyone providing the cut and style are correct for the body wearing it, the midi dress is actually a really viable option for both day and evening wear. Perfect for those who are not keen on their knees and upper legs, many midi styles also feature 3/4 and long sleeves, addressing another area many women are not happy with.

If you are unsure what type of dress you need, length is a good thing to focus on. A shorter dress might help you show off your flirtatious side, while a longer one might give off an air of elegance or professionalism, depending on the style. A midi dress is nice because it can do both in certain situations, depending on the one you pick. That is because the halfway down your calf length is appropriate for all occasions. That leaves you free to only focus on the pattern or style during midi-dress selection. You can choose a color or print you want and not worry about matching the length to the occasion. Midi dresses can also be worn at any time of year.

Reviewed – Poppy Print Dress from Scarlett and Jo

I’ve been a fan of Scarlett and Jo ever since I saw that gorgeous picture of some gorgeous plus size bloggers wearing the Side panel dress. My thoughts were immediately – ‘here is a company who understands that curvier ladies want something to enhance their figures rather than hide them.’ I then got the chance to meet the lovely ladies at the Plus Size Fashion Weekend, and was again really impressed by the brand ethos and the stylish pieces they were producing.

So when I was asked if I would like to review the Poppy Print dress, it really wasn’t an difficult decision. If you can shout YES over an email, that is what I did.

The first thing I have to say is that the dress I was sent, although most definitely the same shape as the Poppy print dress, was most definitely not the same print. It was a more delicate floral print, in a different colour way. And I have to admit, I actually liked it better than the louder version on the website. This does not seem to be on the Evans website yet, but should be coming soon.

This is a dress in two parts, the black under layer is a thin strapped soft stretch shift. This is great as it is non clingy, and therefore creates a flattering silhouette for the chiffon like top layer.  The dress that goes over the top is pretty and delicate, with an empire line elasticated band that helped to conceal my tummy – which is a definite problem area for me personally.

I wore this dress for an evening occasion, a baby shower I was attending, and felt that with heels and opaque tights it was a perfect choice. Dressy, but not overdressed, long sleeves to block out the cool Spring evening, and rich, vibrant colours to help you stand out from the crowd. But this dress works just as well for daytime chic.

Add a pair of ballerina flats, and a denim jacket, and this dress becomes something that is perfect for a pub lunch, or shopping with the girls. In addition, the top layer would make a great beach cover up, almost feather light it could be scrunched up and packed in your suitcase to look great and uncreased when you reach your destination.

In terms of print, style, and versatility, I can’t find any fault with this dress. It is great on all counts.
