Miss Selfridge – Your one stop for Saturday night dresses.

I’ve just been looking through the new season look at Miss Selfridge and it is safe to say that if you need a super special dress for the weekend, you need to look no further. From glittering full  length showstoppers, to vintage inspired designs and new variations on a little black dress, there are some really stunning designs in this collection, which look more high-end than High Street.

Here are some of my hot picks from Miss Selfridge.

This dress is very Balmain inspired, like a longer version of the dress that was worn by Emma Watson. Imagine walking into a Christmas party wearing this! Beautiful, and so sexy with hardly any skin on display.

Marilyn Monroe caused quite a stir  in  the 1950s with a skin-tight lame halter neck dress. Miss Selfridge have updated it, softened the gold tone by adding pinkish undertones, and created this gorgeous floaty dress that is both sexy and pretty in one.

Miss Selfridge blush gold mermaid dress

The 1960s is a big trend this Autumn/Winter, and this black dress is the sort hat Marianne Faithfull might have worn in 1965, whilst Alexa Chung wears her version in 2011. Add flat Mary-Janes for an innocent look.

Any fan of Markus Lupfer will love the design of this dress, it is a great version of one of his Spring/Summer looks that has been adapted for the new season. Very pretty and frothy – perfect for girlie girls.

Forties silhouettes and detailing are also a huge story. This black dress has adapted the puff shoulders and sheer dot design, but added a more modern skater skirt, making it a very cute look.

Designer Vintage Wedding Show – an update

The hottest date in the wedding calendar is just a few weeks away, but there is some very important information that fashion-mommy has been asked to share with all those brides-to-be out there.

The event, which takes place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June has moved to the newly refurbished Warwickshire County Cricket Club at Edgbaston after literally outgrowing the previous venue.  And to celebrate the new venue, there is a special offer to buy your tickets to the show for just £6 each, until 6pm tonight,  Friday (30 September).

This should be a fabulous venue as there is nothing so British as cricket, so come and enjoy a typically British afternoon tea and your chance to meet the very best, handpicked bridal talent.

See you there!

Duchess of Cambridge is elegant in Amanda Wakeley

The Duchess of Cambridge made a welcome return to the public stage todaywhen she and Prince William made a visit to the Royal Marsden hospital where they opened a new children’s cancer unit.

Kate was wearing a designer who seems to have become a royal favourite, Amanda Wakeley, and looked as elegant as ever in an oatmeal long-sleeved shift dress, described as ‘sculpted felt’. She wore this with her favourite LK Bennett nude court shoes and with her hair soft and flowing.

I know the fashionista press may again have problems with this look, but Kate was spending time with parents and children who were going to be using this unit, so flamboyance and bright, block, colours just weren’t appropriate for the order of the day. The understated colour, simple design and elegant feel of this dress helped to  make this perfect, a well thought out outfit that reminded me of the sorts of things worn by the super stylish Carla Bruni.

Kate’s dress is still available to buy from amandawakeley.com for £450. If this stretches the budget too much, you could take a look at the Reiss Lola, which is the updated version of the Shola, the dress Kate wore when she met the Obamas. Or maybe just invest in one of the raft of Kate dresses that are available on the High Street and online this season. Here are just a few of them, but you can find more at dorothyperkins.com, Hobbs and next.co.uk.
