Why Shaving Your Legs Totally Suck
Written on behalf of TriaBeauty, providers of the home hair removal laser.
I’m about to go on a bit of a rant on a topic which I think that almost every woman out there can relate to and that is the never-ending task of shaving your legs.
In fact, I am getting so tired of it that I am considering looking into other options for home hair removal because I just can’t stand it anymore. It’s either that or let my leg hair grow wild and free and become some sort of hippie-girl, but I don’t think that is happening anytime soon.
Here are some reasons why shaving your legs can be a real pain:
Razors, creams, foams and gels are so expensive!
Stocking up on these shaving necessities can seriously make a big hole in your budget. They are especially expensive if you go for the ones in the adverts with the four “magical” blades, but if you try to save money by going with the cheap ones you always end up bleeding as you rake that one solitary blade over your skin.
It takes ages!
The amount of surface area on both of your legs is quite a lot, several times as much as a man has on his face. Shaving your legs means that your shower or bath will take at least 20 minutes or more. Don’t try to rush it as well, because that is when you always end up cutting yourself and bleeding everywhere, which is not a good look.
You get ingrown hairs.
Shaving can be so difficult on sensitive skin! No matter how careful you are with the razor and how gently you shave, it’s hard to avoid getting razor burn or ingrown hairs. I don’t know what is worse; having hairy legs or having smooth legs which have irritated red bumps all over them.
Shaving is just hard on your skin anyways and it always feels dry and irritated when you get out of the shower. You then have to spend even more time putting lotion or oil on it to make it feel better.
You always miss a spot.
This is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. I will have purchased the expensive shaving supplies, taken a long shower and shaved my legs, put on my cute shorts and set off for the day looking fabulous.
However, partway through the day I will sit down and cross my legs and discover, to my horror, a random patch of hairs on my otherwise smooth skin. Usually they are around the notoriously tricky areas such as the knees or the back of the thighs. Once I discover these wayward hairs poking out and looking awkward they drive me crazy for the rest of the day!
It never lasts.
If all of this hard work, money and time spent shaving my legs lasted for a month I would be fine with it. I could make this sacrifice for one day per month if I was able to have silky smooth legs for the rest of the month.
However, even the best shave does not last even close to this long. In fact, little bits of horrible stubble start to poke through my skin within 24 hours of my last shave! My legs now feel like a homeless man’s face and I’m back to square one again! This cycle will never end and the only respite is wintertime when we can get away with wearing long pants and skipping shaving for a few days.
I know that I’m not going to give up on hair removal all together, but I’m sure there must be some sort of easier method out there? After getting annoyed with shaving for so long, I might be willing to give it a try.
