Oscars 2025 Fashion
Sunday night saw the glitziest, most glamorous night on Hollywood’s calendar. It was, of course, the Academy Awards, also known, more affectionately, as The Oscars. It has to be said that 2025 was a strange year for the Oscars, with no real standout films running away with the awards, instead the awards were scattered across a range of films, with Anora being the biggest winner on the night.
If we’re being honest though, The Oscars is less about which films are the winners, and more about the fashion on display. Whether it be best actor nominee Timothy Chalamet dressed as a canary in head to toe yellow, or the tremendous amount of skin that still seems to permeate what used to be the classiest red carpet, the Oscars is all about the clothes, and specifically, the frocks.
Best Dressed
If I’m honest, it is always the dresses that promise some element of Old Hollywood glamour that I love most. Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly didn’t need the barely there dresses to make a mark, and, this year, the likes of Raye and Selina Gomez showed that this can still be true, harking back to the looks and styles of yesteryear. Best actress winner Mikey Madison also shone in an Audrey-esque dress in pink and black, whilst Selina Gomez topped many ‘best dressed’ lists in form fitting sparkle and Sophia Loren-esque hair. Demi Moore and Halle Berry also won praise for their stunning looks, although you genuinely have to wonder if they have Dorian Grey pictures in their attics as they both continue to defy ageing, looking completely incredible on the red carpet.
Wicked
Wicked proved that, once again, the most popular films tend to get ignored by the academy, as they continue to put their noses in the hair when it comes to films the audiences flocked to and loved. That said, both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande made an impact on the red carpet, and their performance of Defying Gravity was the high point of the night for me (although I bailed after an hour and half as my bed was calling me.)
