Reviewed – Poppy Print Dress from Scarlett and Jo
I’ve been a fan of Scarlett and Jo ever since I saw that gorgeous picture of some gorgeous plus size bloggers wearing the Side panel dress. My thoughts were immediately – ‘here is a company who understands that curvier ladies want something to enhance their figures rather than hide them.’ I then got the chance to meet the lovely ladies at the Plus Size Fashion Weekend, and was again really impressed by the brand ethos and the stylish pieces they were producing.
So when I was asked if I would like to review the Poppy Print dress, it really wasn’t an difficult decision. If you can shout YES over an email, that is what I did.
The first thing I have to say is that the dress I was sent, although most definitely the same shape as the Poppy print dress, was most definitely not the same print. It was a more delicate floral print, in a different colour way. And I have to admit, I actually liked it better than the louder version on the website. This does not seem to be on the Evans website yet, but should be coming soon.
This is a dress in two parts, the black under layer is a thin strapped soft stretch shift. This is great as it is non clingy, and therefore creates a flattering silhouette for the chiffon like top layer. The dress that goes over the top is pretty and delicate, with an empire line elasticated band that helped to conceal my tummy – which is a definite problem area for me personally.
I wore this dress for an evening occasion, a baby shower I was attending, and felt that with heels and opaque tights it was a perfect choice. Dressy, but not overdressed, long sleeves to block out the cool Spring evening, and rich, vibrant colours to help you stand out from the crowd. But this dress works just as well for daytime chic.
Add a pair of ballerina flats, and a denim jacket, and this dress becomes something that is perfect for a pub lunch, or shopping with the girls. In addition, the top layer would make a great beach cover up, almost feather light it could be scrunched up and packed in your suitcase to look great and uncreased when you reach your destination.
In terms of print, style, and versatility, I can’t find any fault with this dress. It is great on all counts.
