Dieting The French Way With Dietbon Diet Meals Delivery Service

In general I am happy with my body. I won’t be giving any supermodel a run for their money, but I have lost around four stone since the birth of my  boy Joe almost 11 years ago, and in general I’m now happy in my own skin. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to lose a few more pounds, The problem is, I’m pretty awful at dieting, and find it hard to stick to them successfully. This is why I think the Dietbon diet meals delivery service is such a good idea, particularly if you have tried diets before and have been a bit of a yo-yo dieter.

Dietbon is a service that delivers your diet meals to your door, enabling you to take the difficult planning and calorie counting out of your diet, and instead allowing you to focus on the exercise. The meals contain 100% natural products, and have no artificial colours, preservatives and flavourings.

Starting your diet

Dietbon is based around 6 days of managed meals through the diet delivery plan, and then one free day. No aspect of your day is left to chance, as, as well as the choice of the two meals for lunch and dinner, there are also breakfast options, snack options and a teatox. The great news is that there are more than 60 meals to choose from when it comes to choosing your mains, a mixture of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, along with hearty soups that proved to be a bit of a favourite in the cold weather we are currently having.

Before your food even arrives, you have a telephone consultation with a Dietbon dietitian. This is a brilliant way to talk through what it is you want to achieve, and ask any questions that you may have concerning the programme. I chatted about how I want to make more intelligent food choices and be involved with a programme that stopped me skipping meals as I sometimes do.

My choices

My choices were as follows: creamy vegetarian carrot and coconut soup, Spicy tomato and beef soup, Whole meal salad : Mini farfalle with chicken and sundried tomatoes, Chicken tikka massala with rice and quinoa, Mexican meatballs with pasta vegetables and tomato sauce, Roast chicken fillet with mashed potatoes, sautéed porked with diced vegetables and bacon,  Salmon with vegetables and grains and a soya sauce, Chicken fillet with rice and almond sauce, Marengo veal,  Conchiglie ( Pasta) pacific salmon and spinach and Ravioli stuffed with goat’s cheese pesto with a tomato and tofu sauce. As you can see it is a varied selection with lots of different flavours and textures which I think is very important when you are trying to diet – boredom is one of the issues.

A couple of tips I would give for your main meals is to definitely serve it on a plate, it is easy to eat out of the microwave containers, but food looks so much better when it is served in an attractive way. Also add your own veggies, or salad to the dish to give it a heartier feel, the meals are calorie controlled so may be smaller than you usually eat, but extra salad is tasty and fills the gaps.

Additional Choices

In addition to the 12 main meals, there was a  pack of plain pancakes, a box of mini lemon cakes for snack a pack of 8 desserts, organic apple and pear compotes. The pancakes were a breakfast choice which could be supplemented, or exchanged for fruit or yoghurt, whilst the mini cakes were a mid afternoon, 4pm snack, something that is encouraged as part of the Dietbon plan.

There was also a morning and teatime teatox which is a crucial part of the plan. Both were tasty and easy to prepare, they just needed to be infused with water for around 5 minutes before drinking.

Was it easy to follow?

Working from home made Dietbon fairly easy to follow, especially as the meals are very quick to prepare (literally two minutes in the microwave) and so allowed me to eat hot food twice a day, as opposed to the once I would usually do (usually a sandwich at lunchtime). Like any meal plan, there were meals I liked more than other, the Chicken Tikka Masala was my favourite of all, and I loved the hearty soups.

The main difficulty is if you tend to be out and about a lot and eat out. You need to try to fit your free day into your social life, but this can be difficult. You need to at least give your first week a good start, so I tried to be back home for lunchtimes and mealtimes.

Exercise and my free day

I kept me free day until the Sunday as I had a family meal. It was a carvery, so I bulked up on more veggies and lean meat, and kept the potatoes to a minimum. I also avoided desert, but did enjoy a gin and tonic. The free day is also a great opportunity to expand your own cooking skills, to make healthy meals from scratch that enhance your good eating habits.

My form of exercise is walking, so I tried to take a walk each day, usually after lunch. There were a couple of really wet days when I missed, but just tried to extend my walks on the drier days.

Weight Loss

Weight loss wasn’t my prime concern for starting the programme, I really wanted to live a healthier life and have a better relationship when it comes to eating properly. However I was still pleased to find I’d lost three pounds, and had genuinely felt better in myself.
