How To Be More Energy-Efficient This Winter

Today has been the first real day of cold, a real ‘Winter has come early’ moment, even though it is still only November. The cold spell, along with the a significant amount of snow, has made the fear of power cuts, blackouts, and the lack of a Winter fuel bill very real. People, especially the elderly, and those with young families, are looking for ways to make their home more energy efficient. The hope is that this will help bring down those dreaded energy bills over the Winter season.

I live in a semi rural area where there are plenty of farms, and homes that are quite remote. There are also a number of period properties in the area, my home being one of them. When I first moved into my home in 2003, it had no mains gas supply to the property, let alone any central heating, and this is something we had to sort ourselves. The same is still true for many of the properties in the general vicinity, but many are now turning away from traditional gas central heating and opting for a heating oil tank.

Why Choose a Heating Oil Tank?

A heating oil tank is often associated with business and factory properties, but using it for your home can be very beneficial. One of the main attractions, particularly in this current time, is the self sufficiency of using oil. It is independent of the National Grid, so there is no worry that you will lose your heating when the weather turns severe, or during any kind of fuel shortage or emergency. This is particularly important if you are elderly, or live in a remote area, where you run the risk of being cut off during Winter.

Oil is also both energy and environmentally friendly. It burns cleanly – there is no smoke or fumes which is important if you are trying to make your home ecologically sound. It is also energy efficient, can heat up to a higher temperature than natural gas and is often cheaper to use than opting for mains gas.

Things to consider

  • What size tank do you need to ensure your home is served? This is where it is useful to speak to heating oil tank experts.
  • You need to remember that you must check your oil levels on a regular basis to ensure you never run out of heating oil.
  • Is it safe? The overwhelming answer to this is YES! Heating oil is a safe means of keeping homes warm. It’s not combustible at ambient temperature in the UK.
  • Storage.  It is stored easily and safely in bunded storage tanks.

Have your considered opting for a Heating Oil Tank yet?
