New Year, New Baby

Are you looking forward to hearing the patter of tiny feet in 2025? Maybe your baby is already on the way and so you are well into the planning stages,  with a list of all those things you need to do, (a list as long as your arm, no doubt). If a new baby is going to be a massive part of your new year, whether by a natural birth, via ivf packages, or through adoptation, surrogacy or fostering, there are many things you need to do.

And now is as good a time as any!

A Nursery

Once the 20 week scan is safely out of the way, many thoughts turn towards a nursery. This is a room that can have big expense attached to it, as you need a cot, storage space, maybe a changing unit and a nursing chair. The period immediately after Christmas is a time for sales, so you may well be able to get some real bargains on those bigger items. Also, look at shopping savvy – a coat that can also turn into a toddler bed is a great idea, a chair that will fit the room even as baby grows is also useful. If you are on a budget, you may skip the changing unit altogether and just get a changing mat that can be used in just about every room of the house.

Clothing

Buying baby clothing is such a lovely task, but there are some steps that I would suggest. In those early days, most babies seem to live in babygrow’s rather than all those cute little outfits as these are warm, practical and make it east to change nappies with the popper fastenings. So, even if you don’t buy lots of different outfits, it is worth buying lots of babygrows in a range of the first sizes, these are never a bad idea, you will certainly use them.

A Car seat/baby carrier

A car seat is an absolute essential. According to NHS guidance, if you have your baby in hospital or a birth centre, you will need the car seat to drive your newborn home safely. It’s a good idea to practise fitting the seat before your baby is born. One way to save money in this department is by looking at a pram that has a detachable car seat/baby carrier that is integral to the season. This is a baby carrier that can be added to a pram frame so it works both when travelling by car, and when you are out and about.

Other essentials that are worth buying in bulk include nappies, wipes and bibs. These are things you will constantly run out of and never have enough of.
