Arthur Price How To Lay The Perfect Christmas Table Event at Wolverhampton Grand

On Monday I was invited to a rather wonderful event at Arthur’s of the Grand. Arthur’s is a new cocktail bar and pre-theatre area sponsored by Arthur Price, the cutlery experts, at the newly refurbished Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton, and is a beautiful Art Deco space. Monday’s event was the perfect way to start the Christmas season, with advice on all things Christmas. From laying the perfect Christmas table, making exquisite Christmas cocktails, seasonal touches for the home and food treats in the form of Christmas cake and quick dishes. It was a sparkly festive event and started Christmas with a seasonal bang.

The evening started with some festive Cocktails created by Leah. There was an alcoholic version which was deliciously coconut and was called the Snow Queen, and a ‘virgin’ cocktail perfect for those on driving duty which was based around Cranberry. I loved how Leah used little pegs to stick Christmas motifs onto the cocktail glasses, a lovely touch that was so simple and effective.

Next up was food to accompany those cocktails. Professional Chef Simon Smith was on hand to show us how to create three very quick dishes that could be easily be integrated into your Christmas menu. This included a seafood cocktail, a twist on cooking turkey, and, best of all, a divine dessert using meringue, orange curd and cream. It was so good that frankly I could’ve licked the bowl clean. Definitely one to add to my Christmas day list.

We continued the food theme with cake, with Wolverhampton’s Shuga Budz giving us the lowdown on creating the perfect Christmas cake. They had created a brilliant cake for the event, complete with cutlery decorations to celebrate the heritage and expertise of Arthur Price. Christmas cake is often traditionally fruit, but this was my favourite, Victoria Sponge, and I must admit I really enjoyed tucking into it later.

With food and drink sorted, it was time to look at the the decoration and the Christmas table. Grant Bushell of Urban Britannia had brilliant ideas for creating those finishing touches, from putting baubles into vases to make table centrepieces, to folding napkins into Christmas trees (not as difficult as you might think.)

Then it was time for the piece de resistance. The table is the heart of Christmas Day and Simon Price talked about how to make it a showstopper, with the use of cutlery, a colour scheme and beautiful pieces to dress the table. The white and gold dressed table was truly beautiful and certainly gave plenty of ideas for Christmas Day entertaining. We then took part in a fun task to see if we could set the table – and I’m pleased (and super surprised) to say that I was one of the winners, and won a set of Arthur Price Christmas mugs.

House of Fraser are sorting out your cocktail needs

We are getting very close to the festive season, and that means that it is almost cocktail season too. On Monday night I attended a very special Christmas event at the Wolverhampton Grand, and one of the things on the menu was creating Christmas cocktails, with a Snow Queen being a particular treat (coconut cream, Malibu and blue curacao in case you’re wondering.) Forget the Eggnog and the Mulled Wine, Christmas is about cocktails, glamorous, decadent and elegant.

House of Fraser are getting into the party spirit in style and have created a cocktail wheel which can help you to create a series of classic cocktails. You spin the virtual wheel to your chosen cocktail, and are then presented with the ingredients and a simple 1,2,3 guide in how to make your cocktail. These cocktails are classics, from Carrie Bradshaw’s Cosmopolitan, a Bellini, Mojito, Long Island Iced Tea, a Martini and an Old Fashioned. There are also cocktails that will take you right back to your Summer holidays, with recipes for Sangria and Margarita.

Bellini’s

My favourite cocktail is the Mojito, and, as much as I love strawberry versions, to me, the traditional is still the best. With lime and mint leaves, it packs a zesty punch and is definitely a drink I would turn to again and again.

If you are getting ready to create some cocktails, then you will need to make sure you have the right equipment. A cocktail is totally spoiled if it is served in the wrong glass, or worse still, a plastic tumbler. House of Fraser is once again addressing your needs, not only do they provide the formula for the perfect cocktail, but they have a great range of cocktail glasses and cocktail shakers too. If you are heading off to a house party this year, a cocktail shaker could be a great gift to take with you.
