How Do My Child’s Lifestyle Choices Affect Their Education?

As parents we always want what’s best for our children, which can ultimately be affected by a child’s lifestyle choices and habits. If they’re grown up in a world that has a range of difficult and negative lifestyle choices it can bring their education and learning skills into question and could potentially let them fall behind in class.

Here are some common lifestyle choices that can affect a child’s education, from this independent school in Kensington.

Diet and eating habits

Eating healthy is the cornerstone of both a healthy body and healthy mind. Foods with minimal sugars, fat and salts will ensure your child isn’t prone to “crashing” in the day or becoming hyper during school time. While sweets, chocolate and junk food can still be enjoyed in small doses, it’s important to remind your child that eating plenty of fruit and vegetables is beneficial to their growth. Eating breakfast, lunch and dinner will also make sure your child is getting enough nutrients and food through their day.

Getting enough sleep each night

The minimum people should be sleeping each night is 8 hours, but for children it can be longer depending on how tired they get throughout the day. Everyone is different after all! Having a good night’s sleep also means that your child can feel adequately refreshed after a long day at school and will be less likely to feel erratic and stressed when they return to school the following day.

Negative behaviour

If your child is mingling with friends that happen to be bullies at school, or push a lot of peer pressure onto others, it can mean your child’s missing out on a lot of learning experiences through school. Ensure your child knows the importance of being nice, respectful and compassionate to promote a happy and healthy environment.
