Elf The Christmas Spectacular At Resorts World
It is the brightest, shiniest show of the year, one totally worthy of the title Christmas spectacular and it is now wowing audiences in Birmingham Resorts World with its tale of Christmas spirit. Elf the Christmas Spectacular is just wonderful and if you don’t enjoy it then you must be a Cotton Haired Ninny Muggins.
The story from the Will Ferrell classic movie is still recognisable, along with lots of those favourite, famous lines (‘Santa, I know him’, ‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear’, ‘That’s not Santa,’ and my own fave ‘Smiling’s my favourite’) but other scenes have been changed, and new scenes added to make the show really stand out on the big stage. So there’s no angry elf, but you do have a very impressive scene featuring lots of dancing Santa’s which will live long in the memory. And whilst there are no reindeers, the flying Christmas sleigh is a truly magical experience that made the children in the auditorium truly gasp.
The Legendary David Essex is just the right side of stern and unsmiling as Buddy’s dad Walter Hobbs, keeping the smile off his face even as he faces Buddy’s often hilarious behaviour. Martine McCutcheon still sounds like an absolute dream, her beautiful voice soars through the auditorium playing Buddy’s girlfriend Jovie, and then there is Buddy himself. Played by the brilliant Tam Ryan, the best compliment I can make is that Tam is Buddy, he is just wonderfully funny, and childlike, a perfect embodiment of Christmas spirit. He totally steals the show.
With children from the Pauline Quirke academy, all those Santa’s and a wonderfully festive Christmas storyline that leaves you with a warm glow, Elf is not to be missed the Christmas.
