Finding The Perfect Bed For Your Room
I’m guessing if you asked most people what their favourite item of furniture is, they would probably say their bed. It’s a place where we spend a lot of time, where we feel comfortable, and safe, and where we can let the cares of the day disappear, at least for a few hours. We all need a good bed, and yet buying one can be a bit of a mind field, as there are just so many out there to choose from. Luckily, Simba, who produce some of the best beds, mattresses and pillows out there, are close at hand to help us make the right choice.
Simba have some really great guides and advice on their blog which can answer lots of questions you may have when it comes to picking the right bed. It is well worth a look if you are currently puzzling over what to get. In the meantime, here are some pointers which may help you on the your way.
Size does matter!
No, I’m not being saucy when I say this, but when it comes to choosing a bed, size does matter. Beds come in a range of sizes, from tiny cot beds, to enormous Emperor beds. What you choose is governed by two facts, just who is sleeping on it, and what is the size of the room it has to go into.
When it comes to a child my advice is to go for a cot bed when your child is a baby, and then onto standard single once you child is out of the cot stage. The standard single will be relevant from childhood into the teen years, and if you have one with additional drawers it will also help with storage for toys and games.
For adults looking for some sort of double bed, the size of the bedroom is very important. As much as we would all like an Emperor bed, a bed that actually swamps the bedroom is not a good idea, particularly if you then can’t get any additional furniture in. Measure your room carefully and then check out everything from a standard double to a king size to see which would be the best, and most comfortable fit. The Simba guide also gives you tips on how to measure the bed, this could be very useful.
Style
When you choose a bed, you need to ensure that it fits in with your decor, style, personality and taste. A bed is an expensive purchase, so it needs to be the right one. Think about the material it is made for – traditional wood, imitation leather, or a steel/metal frame, and how this fits in with the rest of your furniture. Some modern beds come with covered headboards and divans and these can be a real focal point to any room.
Also look at the durability of the bed, if it is for a child it needs to be tough and hard wearing to take all the bouncing and pillow fights!
Budget
Finally, we need to turn to budget. When you are buying a bed, you need to look at your complete budget, as well as what you actually need. For instance, do you need a new mattress, or will your current mattress be OK? Do you want to budget to add additional underbed drawers for storage? Does your new divan include a headboard?
Make sure you don’t forget any little extras you might need to make your new bed perfect.
