Stylish Television – Little Drummer Girl
Sometimes you watch a series because it is must see television. Sometimes you watch a programme because everyone is talking about it. And sometimes you watch a programme because you are totally obsessed with the leading ladies wardrobe. Little Drummer Girl, currently showing on the BBC on Sunday evenings, is definitely in the final category. It hasn’t totally gripped me, although it is interesting and watchable, but leading lady Florence Pugh as actress turned secret agent Charlie has the most covetable wardrobe currently see on television.
Little Drummer Girl is based on a John Le Carre novel and is set in 1979. It is filmed in a very 1970s style with lots of muted colours that give it an authentic feel, but when Charlie is on the screen it becomes awash with colour and vivacity, as her wardrobe is strong on bright and primary colours, orange, yellow, blue and red. Her clothes have a definite 1970s feel, but also come across as totally contemporary and very now.
A key look was a beautiful, bohemian maxi dress in vibrant yellow that Charlie wore when she visited the Acropolis with Gadi. This dress was just gorgeous and totally 70s, but would totally work today when vintage styling is so popular.
With Christmas just around the corner we are hitting the time of year when bright colours, vibrant reds and greens in particular, work so well. Add some colour into your Winter wardrobe and light up any room in the same way that Charlie lights up the screen.
