If you live near Birmingham, and beauty is your thing, then the ‘HARVEY NICHOLS – BEAUTY SCHOOL DROP OUT’ event is most definitely something you will be interested in.  This promises to be an evening that is both fun and informative,  celebrating all that is beautiful about beauty!

Harvey Nichols Birmingham is hosting its first Beauty School Drop Out next Wednesday (March 12th) at it’s Mailbox home, and this will feature a range of classes, games and demonstrations.  There will be sweet treats to enjoy, as well as a glass of bubbly as you learn about the season’s trends, tricks of the trade and the what’s hot and what’s not when it comes to cosmetics and beauty.

You will also get the chance to ‘get creative’ in the “Art Department” (I am so dying to know what this entails…any ideas…?)  and there will be the chance to win exclusive beauty prizes when you take part in playground games. All sounds like great, frothy fun doesn’t it. The evening runs from 6pm-9pm and tickets cost £10 (redeemable on Beauty and Perfumery purchases on the night). Tickets are available in store or for more information please call 0121 616 6008.

Selfridges introduces Charlotte Tilbury Beauty

When you think about the world’s top make-up artists, the inimitable Charlotte Tilbury will always be near the top of your list. One of the world’s most sought after artists, with 20 years experience, from Fashion Weeks all over the world, to creating the faces of the most beautiful and glamorous women around, Charlotte creates the looks that we try to recreate at home. And now she is giving us just a little help in this department.

For the lovely lady has launched a make-up collection at Selfridges. Launched this week, the ‘Charlotte Tilbury Make-Up Collection’ is the perfect way to channel Charlotte’s beauty ideas. Charlotte has created a complete collection that includes her own fabled magic potion, her own magic cream that is a mixture she has been creating for the past 20 years, and promises the wearer to treat and transform the face, giving you ‘age defying, dewy skin.’

CHARLOTTE TILBURY Charlotte’s magic cream treat & transform moisturiser SPF 15 £70

What I think is brilliant about the make-up collection is that it has been organised into a series of looks that means there is something for everyone. There are make-up looks to suit young skin with the ‘Ingenue’ range,  and more mature looks with the ‘Sophisticate’. There are echoes of Charlotte’s good friend Kate Moss in the ‘Rock Chick’ items, whilst Hollywood glamour reigns supreme in ‘the vintage vamp’, ‘the Bombshell’ and ‘the glamour muse’.

This is a wonderful collection, full of great colours. With exquisite packaging that brings to mind vintage Biba, this collection is proving popular, with sell-outs already appearing.  Although I really shouldn’t mention the ‘C’ word, I will – these items would make amazing Christmas presents for a beauty buff.

Archie’s Girls by MAC – retro and fabulous.

Make up legends MAC’s latest limited edition range is totally retro fabulous. ‘Archie’s Girls’ is inspired by the comic series ‘Archie’s Girls Betty and Veronica‘ which tells the tale of the classic love triangle that consists of Archie Andrews, the gorgeous blonde girl next door Betty and the sultry rich girl Veronica. The series has been running since the 1940s, and now the iconic characters have been immortalised in a vintage style range from M.A.C that you can find in Selfridges from today.

The Archie’s Girls collection is very much a contrast between the two girls. Blonde Betty is very much the cutesy, Doris Day, Sandra Dee type girl next door so her collection could be christened ‘pretty in pink’. Veronica, on the other hand, would’ve given Bettie Page a run for her money in the sultry stakes, so her collection is much more dark and dangerous. Very different, but both of the collections come in gorgeous 1950s comic book inspired packaging which makes it just so wonderful, perfect for beauty lovers and those with a zest for retro pieces.

Take a little look at this collection and tell me you’re not seduced.
