A Busy Mom’s Guide To Perfecting The Art Of Beautiful Makeup

When you become a mom, your kids always come first, and that’s the way that it should be. However, just because you’re a mommy, that doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel as good as you used to. The difference between being a mom and not being a mom is that everything needs to be done quickly. From straightening your hair to applying your makeup, time is always of the essence.

With that in mind, I thought I would share some tips for perfecting the art of beautiful makeup application. Take these on board and you can ensure that no matter how much time you have, your makeup always looks beautiful.

Get inspiration

The first step to take is to get inspiration. By getting inspiration when it comes to applying your makeup, this will help you to find a look that you love. Ideally, for a quick makeup look, you want to opt for something that’s natural, as these looks tend to be easier to perfect. Go online and look at a few different makeup looks to get an idea of what styles you like. Any looks that you think would look good on you, save and use for inspiration. You may even be able to find step-by-step guides for each look, if you can, save these too.

Practice makes perfect

When it comes to applying your makeup quickly, practice makes perfect. You need to establish a routine that you apply your products in so that every day you instantly know what to do. For example, you might apply primer, foundation, concealer and then setting powder. You may then put blush, highlighter, and bronzer on, before turning your attention to your eye makeup. It’s important to practice applying your makeup so that you’re able to get into a routine and are able to apply your makeup more quickly. Everyone knows that practice makes perfect, so the more you’re able to practice, the better.

Invest in some good quality products

One of the most important things when it comes to applying your makeup quickly is that you have good quality products to work with. This is because good quality products tend to be easier to use and only need to be applied once because they’re more highly pigmented. Take the time to read product reviews online, to see which products would be best for you. When you find a product that you like the sound of, such as the Violet Voss Holy Grail palette, take the time to read up on it. Go to your local beauty store and ask to see and swatch it, so that you can make sure it’s right for you. Look at how easy the colors pick up on the brush and how simple it is to apply and blend.

Use products that are quick and easy to use

When it comes to quick makeup application, it’s essential that you use products that are easy to use. For this, the best products to use are stick products, such as foundation sticks, blush sticks, and so on. This is because all you have to do is draw them onto your skin and blend them in with your fingers and voila, your makeup is done. There are plenty to stick products to choose from, from high end to drugstore. So whatever it is that you need, be it a highlighter stick or a blusher, there’s sure to be one that’s suitable. Plus, by using these types of products, you don’t even need to use a makeup brush, making application quicker and easier.

Set makeup in place

The most important thing to remember when you’re a busy mom is to make sure to set your makeup in place. When life is hectic you won’t have time to redo your makeup, should it end up in a mess. That’s why it’s so important that you make time to set it in place with a making setting powder and makeup setting spray. That way, no matter what you spend your day doing, your makeup should stay in place all day long. Be it swimming with the kids or baking, set your makeup in place and it should stay looking good all day.

As a mom, making time for yourself can seem impossible. That’s why if you want to be able to wear makeup every day, you need to be able to apply it incredibly quickly and easily. The good news is that if you know what you’re doing this is much easier than you would think. It’s just a case of doing plenty of practice to ensure that you get it right.

Boots Match Made Service

When it comes to applying make up, there are certain areas that I still struggle with after all these years of practice. I never wore blusher because I had yet to find one that didn’t leave me looking like an Aunt Sally doll, and still struggled with foundation as I prefer it to look natural rather than like a mask.  Despite having numerous make-overs, in the comfort of my own home I still struggled to get the flawless look I covet.

When I heard about a free service that Boots was running called Match Made, I knew that this was worth a try.  Match Made is a service designed to help you find your perfect foundation, blusher or lipstick shade. A facial device reads your skintone (you just need to take off a little patch of make up) and matches it to one of the No 7 skin true shades.

I went to try out the Match Made service at the Cannock town centre branch of Boots. I booked an appointment, but you can just walk into store to try the service. I was interested in Primer, foundation and that dreaded blusher and was really impressed with how quickly the match is made, and just how accurate and perfect the chosen products were. I have quite blotchy skin at the moment, so a colour balancing primer was suggested, and this was perfect for giving me an even skintone – I was a little surprised to see it was green, but it is brilliant, so don’t let that put you off. If you suffer with redness or blotchy patches, this is the primer for you.

In terms of foundation, my skin is oily, especially around the t-zone area. Therefore a matte formulation foundation works best for me, to remove the shine. The beautifully matte light foundation is just lovely, and gives me the peachy, flawless skin I was looking for, without being thick and heavy to wear.

To complete the look, I finally got a blusher that I am so happy with, giving me a healthy, rosy look that is soft and dewy, and not in the slightest Aunt Sally. I was shown a few shades before choosing one, but was so pleased with the effect.

The shade in the centre is the one I chose – Rose Blossom.

Reviewed – Bare Minerals Original Foundation from Selfridges

Sometimes you are asked to a review a product that you are a little sceptical over. When I was asked by Selfridges if I would be interested in testing the Original Foundation from Bare Minerals, that is exactly how I felt. I know that Bare Minerals are a highly regarded brand, and that this particular product was award-winning, but I was still uneasy about how a foundation that came in powdery form could offer the coverage needed. I was also sceptical about how it would blend into the skin.

Well, I have to say that I have been totally converted by this product, and that from now on, this will be my foundation of choice. This is a brilliant product, one that is great value, easy to apply, and has real results.

The premise of this foundation is simple, Bare Minerals want you to be able to cover up those blemishes, acne scars, uneven skin tone and other problems that can affect the skin, but to do it with the (almost) no make up look. The Foundation has been formulated without any binders, fillers or preservatives, instead using the finest quality ingredients.

The sample I was sent came in a small pot with a gorgeous silver application brush. My first thought was that this wouldn’t be enough for one application, but the whole point of this is that you only need the tiniest amount. You dip the brush into the pot, but then swirl the brush into the lid until it disappears into the brush. You then tap away any excess (I tipped all of this back into the pot – waste not want not), and then apply this to the skin by buffing in a circular motion. This enables you to get the coverage needed, and to make it even.

The products I was sent from Bare Minerals/Selfridges

I have to admit that sceptical me was shocked by how much I like this. For a start it is so light. I am often not a fan of foundations for everyday wear because they are just to heavy – not for nothing is it called ‘putting your face on’, but this formulation actually feels like your face is bare – I love this. It was really easy to apply and quick too, perfect for those who rush in the morning. I also loved how long the coverage lasted, this is make-up that lasts all day, and is the perfect base if you want to wear make-up that day, or provides a natural look if you are going make-up free, but just want your skin to look perfect and healthy.

After application- skin tone more even, redness on cheeks has disappeared.
