Harvey Nichols Birmingham Launch Face Lace

I am really excited about the newest addition to Harvey Nichols cosmetic department. A stunning, baroque face adornment that seems to have been inspired by the gothic beauty of iconic ladies Daphne Guinness and Lady Gaga, Face Lace is an unusual way to make sure all eyes are on you. Gisele is just one celebrity beauty who has worn a face lace design recently, bringing to mind masked balls of the past.

The collection has been created by Make up artist Phyllis Cohen, renowned for the magical make-up effects she has created for the likes of David Bowie and Daphne Guinness in a career that has spanned 20 years. It was created in response to people who said ‘I wish I could do make up leik you.’ The masks are made of vinyl, with an hypo allergenic adhesive that means they can be applied within minutes, and are reusable, making the cost per wear for special nights out very reasonable.

I love the masks, which have their design roots in the Art Nouveau illustrations of Aubrey Beardsley, and the Arts and Crafts movement that included William Morris. They allow you to make a truly dramatic statement without spending hours applying make-up. You can choose whether you go for an elaborate face design, or just a Mehndi style pattern around the eye area.

Face Lace is priced from £13.95 to £47.95, and is available at Harvey Nichols now.
