Fashion-Mommy Loves – A review of July Style.

July was the month that started with two weddings that encompassed a royal wedding and a rock and roll wedding. It was the month that a wedding dress was put on  public display to the delight of millions of fashionistas and romantics. And it was the month that ended with another royal wedding. In between we had a fashion fest from Emma Watson , and saw the shocking death of fashion icon Amy Winehouse. Here are all the highlights of a busy but interesting month.

Brides, Brides, Brides

Kate Moss looked the epitome of dishevelled, boho elegance in her 1920s inspired gown by John Galliano as she tied the knot with her rocker, Jamie Hince. Photographer Terry Richardson got in trouble for publishing intimate shots of the evening celebrations, including the guests hitting the dance floor.

A more controversial wedding was that of Charlene Wittstock to Prince Albert of Monaco. It was reported that the bride tried to flee  before the wedding after rumours of yet more illegitimate children surfaced, but whatever the truth, the bride was simply breathtaking in her Armani Prive dress.

Yesterday saw Britain’s second royal wedding of the year (honestly  they’re like buses, you wait for years for one, and then two come along!) when Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Phillips married rugby star Mike Tindall. She wore a gorgeous and elegant dress by Stewart Parvin that was reputed to have been bought off the peg. No bridesmaid upstaging on this occasion, but Maid of Honour Dolly Maude did like supremely chic in her shift dress.

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge had another fantastic month of style as she wowed the US on her 3 day tour. She wore a faultless array  of outfits, with my pick  being the glorious McQueen evening gown at the Bafta Brits dinner. She outshone all the Hollywood royalty on display, including a flesh flashing JLo.

There were many stylish looks on display this month. Emma Watson shown just how much she has grown up since she started playing Hermione in a range of stunning frocks. My favourite was the exquisite Oscar De La Renta gown that she wore for the UK premiere, but I also loved the BottegaVeneta brown linen and satin dress that did split opinions. Interestingly, Sarah Jessica Parker, who was another best dressed of the month for me, wore the same dress as part of her shoot for the August issue of US Vogue, and then wore another Oscar De La Renta dress for the Harry Potter Premiere.

Also looking good this month was the fabulous Anne Hathaway, who looked ethereal in Valentino at the White Fairy Tale Love Ball in Paris. Olivia Palermo attended this event, and also looked amazing wearing a silver pleated empire line dress from Valentino. I also think Adele looked really stylish in her 1960s style outfit at the I-Tunes festival.

Other stylish fashionistas catching the eye this month were Katie Cassidy in Herve Leger. Now, I am usually so over Herve Leger bodycon, but this tangerine shade looks so hot on the Gossip Girl. I also loved Jennifer Aniston stepping away from the little black dress for silver Valentino at the Horrible Bosses premiere. Justin is obviously a good influence on her oh so boring wardrobe. Hilary Swank showed why yellow is one of my favourite colours in her pretty little sundress, whilst Victoria Beckham  looked simply beautiful in her red maxi dress just days before the birth of Harper Seven. I also loved Kate Moss’s chic return from honeymoon looks, and who could resist the demure Camille Belle in her floral Miu Miu dress?

Amy Winehouse’s death was a shocking and tragic end to a life that had seemed to have so much promise. Although Amy is most likely to be remembered for her untimely demise, fashion fans will always remember the unique and super stylish Amy who created a much copied style all of her own. Her are a few of my favourite pictures of my favourite singer. RIP Amy. Gone, but never to be forgotten.

Here’s to a super scorching August.

Emma Watson’s fabulous Farewell Potter wardrobe.

It’s hard to remember she was just a little girl when the Harry Potter franchise begun. Because has she has waved a fond, and teary farewell to Hermione Grainger, Emma Watson has been showing why she is considered one of fashion’s chicest icons. From brown and gold drama in Bottega Veneta, to more little black dress chic from Rafael Lopez, Emma is showcasing stunning looks again and again. Here is a rundown on her Harry Potter farewell Potter wardrobe.

Totally adorable, this is Emma in Audrey Hepburn mode wearing an exquisite princess dress from Oscar De La Renta. Sure to make all the best dressed of the year lists.

For the London aftershow party, Emma wore this midi length dress from Elie Saab. Loving the length and the sparkle of the dress, it avoids looking twee due to that haircut.

Absolutely adore this short and sexy style by Rafael Lopez. Emma wore something very similar by the same designer last year, and this is a very classy spin on the little black dress.

This dress has split opinions, but I think this bronze/gold creation by Bottega Veneta is gloriously dramatic. I particularly loved the styling of the slicked back hair and brown glitter eye make-up which makes me think of a 1960s era Twiggy.

A sign of a sure fashionista is when Balmain starts popping up in the wardrobe. This dress has a 1960s feel, I love the fact that just the one arm is exposed, leaving all the limelight to Emma’s fab legs. Very directional and fashion-forward.

I am so impressed by Emma’s superb sense of style at such a young age. She really leaves other starlets way behind in the style stakes. Can’t wait to see what she wears next!

Cheryl Cole…a word of advice about that X Factor Wardrobe…

It seems that we may have been a little to hasty about dismissing Cheryl Cole’s American dream. If the press are to be believed (the News of the World so definitely true!!!), Cheryl may well be returning to  US X Factor after produces viewed the tapes and decided they may have made a big mistake in ditching the Georgie petal. If this is true, and I hope for Cheryl’s sake it is, then I hope someone has a word in her ear about her previous X Factor wardrobe. Because, let’s be totally honest,  it was dire. The girl who looked completely fabulous during Cannes in a range of showstopping gowns, sleek hair and flawless make-up looked completely underwhelming during her time in the States. Lets examine the evidence.

Look 1 – Oscar De La Renta top, Diane Von Furstenburg trousers.

It was a clever  move for Cheryl to plump for classic American designers for her first audition. And I do love the purple and orange shades together. But turquoise as well? This was a clear case of over icing the cake. The trousers were just too long, making Cheryl appear as if she had no feet. And the hair…Malibu Barbienow has a Geordie accent. Her crowing glory was teased and backcombed in a way that may well have seen L’Oreal scratching their heads in wonderment. This was overstyled to the extreme.

Look 2 – Sonia by Sonia Rykiel

This is a really cute dress by Sonia Rykiel, and I would love it if Pixie Lott was wearing it. But Cheryl is a sophisticated women, not a little girl, and it really just looked too young for her. Cheryl needed to look self assured and sophisticated to hold her own on a panel of late 40s/50 something fellow judges. This look left her floundering like a little girl allowed to mix with the grown-ups.

Look 3 – Giambattista Valli

This is a nice Giambattista Valli dress. I like the Westwood necklace. But in this ensemble, when compared to the smoking hot Paula Abdul in Alexander McQueen, looks a little bit frumpy for the beautiful and sexy Miss Cole. Paula looked amazing in a dress of a similar shade, but with the plunging neckline, fashion-forward neckline and stylish nude shoes, she far outshines her younger rival. I hate Cheryl’s 1970s style stripper sandals, which look cheap and nasty, and feel sad, because she can do so much better than this. Far too demure and ‘more tea vicar’ for me!

So what should she wear? A few ideas…
