Pearl Lowe continues to bring that Vintage feel to Peacocks.

I was recently lucky enough to have a Twitter conversation with Pearl Lowe, where I was able to tell her how much I loved her feminine, vintage inspired designs for Peacocks. I explained that I was a curvy girl who had virtually lived in one of her designs over the summer, and that I couldn’t believe just how flattering the designs were for those with fuller figures. Pearl explained that she designs dresses that she could wear herself, and so they are made to suit, and indeed enhance girls with curves!

So I am over the moon to bring you the story and looks from Pearl’s latest collection for Peacocks, which amazingly, is collection number 7. Again fusing Pearl’s two favourite decades, the 1940s and 1970s, this is another collection of beautiful, vintage inspired dresses that are designed to be flattering. Whether using the ultra comfortable stretch jersey fabric, or the choice of teadress style, these dresses just create that hourglass physique. They cinch in waistlines, have v necklines to enhance cleavage, and come in plain and printed designs. I want each and every one!

The inspiration for the new collection is those rock chick heroines of the 1970s, Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell. It fuses  two of Pearl’s cherished fashion era’s,  the 40’s and 70’s. 1940s style vintage dresses are mixed with 70’s retro prints inspired by printed head scarves worn by her rock and roll heroes. (such a fantastic inspirational start part).

Pearl says: “My Autumn Winter collection is inspired by my all time favourite singer Stevie Nicks. The collection boasts a mixture of 60’s and 70’s prints which I’ve combined with my trademark lace and silhouettes to create the perfect eclectic outfit for women of all shapes and sizes.”

Peacocks Press day – I want it all!

Thursday saw the Peacocks Summer Press day, held in the sumptuous  surroundings of the Haymarket Hotel, London. Peacocks is one of Fashion-Mommy’s favourite stores for stylish shopping on a budget, so I was really excited about seeing the new collections being revealed. I was not disappointed!

The unseasonably warm weather outside made this the perfect day to showcase Summer collections and beachwear. The luxurious setting of the Haymarket Hotel’s poolside just added to that Riviera feel.  There were many different ranges being showcased, from The Pearl Lowe collection, to the new Peacocks boutique range that includes Peacocks by Design. Daisy Lowe’s new range of swimwear was also being launched, along with Peacocks womenswear/menswear and childrenswear for the upcoming season. Clearly there was something for everyone.

Pearl Lowe

Pearl Lowe’s brand new vintage inspired dresses have been available in store since March 31st and are another unqualified success for the former singer turned designer. The whole collection was on display, a fab range of tiny floral printed teadresses in a range of flattering fabrics. The dresses are a slightly longer length than in previous collections (hurrah!), but are in a range of mouth-watering pallets – violet, coral and cream. Puffed sleeves, tiny button details and tie backs make the whole collection just beautiful – and sure to be another sellout.

The beachwear was a good mixture of cute, cotton brights and dreamy, floaty kaftans. There were maxi tube dresses in primary colours and animal print sheer kaftans. The amazing price points – most items were less than £20- meant that these are summer essentials that can be rolled up and thrown into a suitcase for that amazing summer holiday.

Jewellery trends

The jewellery trend for Summer was all about colour. From retro floral print bangles to colour  clashes Asian inspired chandelier earrings, colour was everywhere. Flowers were also a big trend, I predict that the new ‘Halo’ floral headband will be a huge statement come festival season. This is a laurel style headband with adorned with small flowers like daisies.

For Autumn/Winter statement pieces of goldtone jewellery return, with long strands of beads and heavier necklaces to be worn against those party frocks.

Peacocks by Design

This is a fab designer inspired range of dresses launched last week.  Inspired by 1950s silhouettes and prints, this collection has Audrey Hepburn style dotted prints, chiffon bib front dresses that would be perfect for Carey Mulligan and Kiera Knightley, and a range of pastel and muted shades that make for a very pretty collection. There are big belts and cinched in waistbands that create a very flattering feel to the dresses.

Although the collection is mainly tea-dress style – there were a couple of amazing maxi dresses, including a beautiful blue Halston style one sleeved dress, and a black floral boho style dress that I just loved!

Boutique collection

Imagine you stumbled into an attic and found a perfectly preserved collection of never worn, exquisite vintage clothing. Would never happen? Well, this perfectly describes the Boutique collection, which is straight from mother;s 1950s/60s closet.

There were amazing lace dresses in black and coffee colour with embellished pearl collars. Beautiful black lace and floral full-skirted dresses with Peter Pan collars and ribbon belts. Frill neck blouses just crying out to be paired with skinny jeans and a sharp tuxedo style blazer ala Coco Sumner. This is a collection with Mia Farrow, Michelle Williams and Alexa Chung at its heart. Totally amazing and all under £50.

Womenswear collection

Continuing the vintage theme, the Peacocks womenswear collection had a standout lace dress that will definitely be a best seller. Coming in white and coral, this pretty dress has the trademark Peter Pan collar and silk ribbon belt. Also sure to be successful were the Halston style chiffon mini dresses. These were also in coral/pink and a pastel multicoloured version and were reminiscent of the purple dress worn by SJP in Sex and the City 2. There was also a bright, stripy vest dress with Prada style stripes that would be a perfect holiday dress.

As well as short, flirty dresses, the collection had a host of  full length dresses that proved the maxi dress is definitely a wardrobe staple that is here to stay. Ranging from batwing sleeved styles that shrieked global traveller, and just needed some large shades and an oversized bag to  complete the outfit, to more boho style with tiny floral prints and skinny belts, these are amazing  dresses that I will be adding to my summer wardrobe.

Autumn 2011 previewed

Camel and muted shades will still be around, with black having a major revival.  My pick of this collection was a green cap style coat which looks like  a designer find and yet will cost just £45.

A great selection of shoes and bags were on display. There were shoes to suit every occasion in a mixture of styles, from animal print skyscraper heels, to silver ballet flats. I loved the beach inspired dotty wedges and straw hat that had a long, hot summer feel.

All in all Peacocks have produced  fantastic new ranges with affordable price points which would grace any fashionista’s wardrobe.

Christmas – the perfect excuse for Glitz and glamour!

One of the things I love most about Christmas is that glitter is not just a fashionable option, it is almost compulsory. You can wear your most sparkly outfits, both in the day, and most definitely at night. Whether it be full on sparkle in glittery dresses, or just a touch through shoes, bags and accessories, Christmas is the time to shine like a star. And, with the days becoming exceedingly dark, now is the time to be proud and dress like a disco ball. Here are some choices I have picked to suit every women who likes to shine!

For the designer diva…

This is a fantastic project D dress by Danni Minogue just evokes 70’s disco. Danni wore this herself on the X Factor, and it is one of my favourite Minogue looks. It is also appropriately named, for this is the Tinsle dress. It is available at Selfridges for £350 and would be perfect for New Years Eve.

For the plus size diva…

Evans has the most amazing party range this season. Sequins. lace, ruffles and feathers are all included in the most stunning range of dresses and tops. Proof that being a size 16+ is no barrier to amazing festive style. This sequined dress also has the 70’s vibe that I love, and the vibrant colour makes a nice change to black.

£39.50 Evans.

This black/gold dress is very reminiscent of Alexander McQueen‘s opulent designs, and could be dressed down with a bikers leather and boots. I could see Rihanna wearing this dress.

£37 Evans

For the petite diva…

Many petite diva’s have the same issues as their plus sized sisters when trying to find the right Christmas dress. Luckily, Wallis has a stunning collection of party dresses that won’t break the bank. I love this purple maxi dress from the Wallis Petite collection. Because this is cut specifically for the more petite fashionista, it shouldn’t swamp smaller frames.

For the petite lady who feels swamped by the maxi, this super sexy black dress from Wallis could be the answer. It has a Kylie Minogue feel to it, and would look just amazing with silver accessories.

For the ‘I don’t do dresses’ diva…

Not everyone feels comfortable in a dress. For those divas, Monsoon may be the answer. It has a great range of sparkly skirts and tops that could be dressed down with simpler accompaniments. This glitter sparkle top has an art deco feel to it, and could be paired with denim for a dressed down look, or velvet for real decadence. The Visconti skirt is a real show stopper, and certainly on my Christmas list this year. Imagine it during the day, with a Cashmere sweater! For the budget diva…

F&F at Tesco have an amazing range of party dresses at reasonable prices this year. I love this shift dress that is just £30, but looks so much more expensive.

Another post of call for the budget fashionista must be Peacocks, with it much lusted after Pearl Lowe range. This dress, modelled by Daisy Lowe, in baby pink and silver, is absolutely beautiful, with an amazing vintage feel to it.

Matalan also has a great party range, and for those girls who really only wear trousers, a jumpsuit is just the thing. I love this black effort, just £25 from the Be Beau range. This is crying out for a roller disco!

£25 Matalan

The Online diva…

For those of you who steadfastly avoid the shops at Christmas, there are a myriad of glitter outfits online, to suit every budget and taste. is a bargain basement site with fashion forward looks at amazing prices. I adore this striped Rochelle maxi dress that I would love to see Agyness Deyn wearing with a pair of Doc Marten boots.

Rochelle dress Boohoo £20

The Saffia mini dress is another bargain at just £20. The blue and silver is such a pretty colour mix, and the style would look amazing on Emma Watson.

At the other end of the style and price spectrum is this amazing 3.1 Phillip Lim dress from Net-a-porter. Imagine Kate Middleton updating the ‘Dynasty Di’  look in this dress!

£975 Net-a-porter

Whatever your style, size or budget, there is Christmas glitter to suit everyone this year. Make sure you put some sparkle in your Christmas wardrobe, you know you won’t regret it!
