English Heritage inspiration from Joules

One of my favourite fashion trends of all time is the English heritage trend. Role models as diverse as The Queen and Debo, Duchess of Devonshire  have been at the forefront of this particular trend since their youth, and the mantle has been passed on to Stella Tennant, Luella Bartley and Kate Moss. Films like The Edge of Love have also made English Heritage part of their charm. And this season, it is Joules that has created the perfect English Heritage collection.

The Mitfords

The English Heritage look is a design classic. It taps into the slightly disheveled look of the aristocracy off duty. Pretty printed tea dresses teamed with chunky Arran style knits are one of my absolute favourite looks, and tweed jackets, acres of tartan and check prints, and equestrian style touches in terms of buttons and prints are all integral to this look.

The Joules Autumn/Winter collection has all the key prints, fabrics and styles that you would expect from a company that started out selling equestrian gear at Country fairs. No one does the English Country look as well as Joules, and this season there are some real standout pieces. I’m obsessed with the Lowry chunky jumper in one of my fave shades, mustard. I’d love to see it worn nonchalantly with Phoebe striped skirt and a pair of wellies for a look that would totally channel Kiera and Sienna. I also adore the Larkworth Fur Tweed Jacket. This is the sort of piece that you might find in a vintage shop if you were very lucky, the fur collar is just so heritage, a real 1930s vintage piece. And there are so many other pieces to savor. Here are some I would like to find in my wardrobe some time soon.

Next’s Fabulous new range of accessories – A sneak Preview.

One of my favourite High Street stores is Next, and I have been very privileged  to get a sneak preview of some of the amazing shoes and accessories you will be adding to your must-have list next season. This is a collection with one eye to the past, but with its two feet firmly planted in the super-stylish present. Here are a few of my favourite pieces.

Get the Kate Moss vibe

If you loved the blue boots that Kate wore the day before her wedding, then you are in for a treat. Next have the perfect pair of 1970s inspired teal platform boots that will let you work that rock and roll boho vibe perfectly. Team them with a tan coloured midi skirt and skinny rib polo neck for that Laura Mars look. You could also add the teal cloche hat if you feel brave enough to mix up your eras!

Teal platform boots £95

Teal cloche hat £14

The Wedge is definitely not disappearing!

I love these tan wedge loafers. They seem to be the perfect winter shoe, just crying out for chunky tights, or over the knee socks. Wear this with either tights or socks, and then add shorts and a pussycat bow tie blouse. Leopard print accessories could add to the look, this watch is really stylish!

Tan wedge loafers £40

Leopard print watch £18

Daddy, I want a pony!

Some of the pieces in the new Next collection have the feel of vintage luxury accessories from the archives of fashion houses such as Gucci and Hermes. These amazing black and tan boots are a case in point. They look like riding boots that would leave little change from £1,000 and I can imagine them being worn by a Lady of the Manor in full riding regalia. Team them with your skinny jeans and a tweed jacket to get the Stella Tennant look.  Add the horse skinny belt to your waistband for the full heritage look.

Black and tan riding boots £78

Horse skinny belt £10

There are more fab pieces to be revealed from Next – Fashion-Mommy will be really happy to share them with you.

All items will be available at Next stores nationwide and at www.next.co.uk

White Stuff Autumn Collection – sneak preview.

The sales are still in full swing in a town centre near you, but I always think it is exciting when we start to see a glimpse of the new season’s looks. New colours, new fabrics, different shapes and lengths all go to make shopping that little bit more exciting. So, Fashion-Mommy is going to start previewing the upcoming season by starting with a sneak peek at the collection of one of the High Street‘s most fabulous independents – White Stuff.

I am a great fan of White Stuff,  there always seems to be a quirky side to its designs that I find so appealing. In addition, the attention to detail is impeccable, pretty buttons, vintage style stitching and high quality fabrics just giving White Stuff clothes such a lovely feel. This season is no  exception.

A/W 2011 @ White Stuff

There is almost a 1940s Land Girl feel to the new collection.Pretty floral print dresses are teamed with brightly coloured tights for Autumn, but could easily be worn without in event of an Indian Summer.  Great chunky boots add to the English Classic feel, and I couldn’t help but think of Stella Tennant and Alexa Chung, the quintessential English girls, when viewing this collection.

This is a great transitional collection that will take us from High Summer to Autumn so easily. The look above would be perfect for the remaining pop festivals, especially those amazing cherry boots. It seems that White Stuff have done it again!
