Taking An Autumn Break: The Cotswolds

It is one of the loveliest parts of the UK. It has long been rumoured that Kate Moss lives here, along with The Beckhams, Jeremy Clarkson and even Liam Gallagher. I am talking about the Cotswolds, which are the perfect place for a Summer break or just a day trip. I did a fantastic trip myself to the exquisite Bourton on the Water, aka the Venice of the Cotswolds, and totally fell in love with its beauty and gentle pace of life. But the Cotswolds are not just a destination for hot days, they are the perfect destination for an Autumn break, particularly as we are now, finally, having a taste of Indian Summer.

Why October?

October is a great time for an adults only break. Children are firmly ensconced in school, at least until the end of the month, and that means that those who like peace, quiet and like to avoid crowds and queues firmly have the advantage. The weather is usually pretty nice in October, full of beautiful Autumn colours, but the clocks haven’t gone back just yet, so the days are still quite long. Perfect for a break in Luxury Holiday Homes in the Cotswolds . This could be in a lodge, a farm, even in a former Manor House. The choice is yours, and, in the Cotswolds, it is plentiful.  Whether you are looking to explore little villages, or just want to relax, you will find a place to stay that suits your needs perfectly.

Why The Cotswolds?

Why are the Cotswolds just so popular? The first, and most obvious point is that they are just so picturesque. A large area within the Cotswolds has been designated as a National Landscape, with many areas of unspoilt natural beauty that is perfect for those who love leisurely country walks. Many of the villages are also still unspoilt, with an abundance of thatched cottages and chocolate box scenery.

However, that doesn’t mean that these places are pretty, but dull. I went to Moreton-in-Marsh on market day and it was literally buzzing. It was one of the best markets I have ever been too, with stores that went on for what seemed like miles. I was also impressed with the brilliant charity shops full of designer products, and chic eateries that offered far more than a pasty.

Where to Visit?

There are so many pretty villages it really is up to you, but for me, Moreton-in-Marsh on Market day, combined with a trip to Bourton on the Water is really unmissable. Castle Coombe is often called the most beautiful village in England, so I guess you need to check this out for yourself. Stow on the Wold, famous for its horse fair, is another historic town that is worth a visit.

Have you visited The Cotswolds?
