These Storage Ideas Could Revolutionise Your Kitchen Space

All homeowners want a single thing when it comes to designing their kitchens, plenty of storage. Wouldn’t it be great if your cooking space would feature enough storage space to hide all your appliances and supplies and a walk-in pantry? Unfortunately, your house might not be big enough to allow for building such a large kitchen, and you need to use your creativity to come up with ways to tuck away all the things you need when cooking.

While there’s no way to make your kitchen more spacious, some tricks could make it more organised. The process involves taking several small decisions because you’ll have to change how the kitchen looks. However, each of the following recommendations will help you add more storage space and transform the kitchen into a functional space

Clean out the kitchen

Before doing any remodelling work, removing everything from your kitchen is crucial. With empty cabinet drawers, you’ll find it easier to figure out where you can store each item and what new additions you need to improve room functionality.

When sorting through things, think about the last time you used each item. If more than a year passes, it’s time to throw it away. Do you really need all those plates? Be reasonable and limit the number of items you keep. Removing multiples is the best way to increase storage space.

Relocate some of the items

Now that you took out everything from the drawers, it’s the ideal time to sort and select them and decide which ones you can relocate. You might have more storage space in the garage, so you could take some of the items you rarely use there. You don’t really need the waffle iron, vacuum sealer, or fondue set daily in the kitchen.

Create a spice drawer

If you’re a passionate cook, then you definitely have dozens of spice bottles and jars spread around the kitchen, and your countertop is a mess. Remodel one of the kitchen drawers so you can place all the spices in one place and increase the countertop available space. This will help you create a more organised kitchen and remove clutter from the countertop. Also, you might keep on displaying spices you don’t use regularly, so it’s best to stock them in a place where you’re less likely to spill them.

Get rid of bulky packaging

Do you really want to keep all the packaging for your cooking supplies? Chips, cereals, and most snacks come in bulky boxes with plenty of space because they are filled with air. Decant everything in stackable jars and containers to improve shelf space and preserve them fresh for a longer time. Before you put everything in a new container, purge the pantry to identify the expired snacks. There’s no use to keep them if you haven’t tasted a chip in a couple of months. Keep only the necessities and toss to the trash everything else.

Suppose you already have some jarred or canned supplies, try to remember when was the last time you used them, and if more than six months have passed, you should throw them out.

Use baskets to store small supplies

If you throw them in a drawer or spread them over the kitchen island or countertop, small items could take up a lot of space. Instead of allowing them to clutter the cabinets and fall every time you open a door, place them in baskets and stack the baskets in a drawer.

Create a larder unit or install a bookcase

If you have a pantry but lack storage space, take matters into your own hands and install a pull out larder unit or bookcase. These furniture solutions are ideal for increasing kitchen storage space and organising the room. If you opt for a larder unit, make sure to hire a kitchen furniture manufacturer to customise it according to your kitchen’s needs. It’s a chic addition that keeps your items hidden from sight and allows you to put away anything from dishes to cooking supplies and cookbooks.

Install a narrow shelf

A narrow but tall drawer is ideal for the areas between the stove, fridge, or sink and a wall. All kitchens have these small spaces between appliances and walls or furniture pieces that could be converted into storage areas. They don’t take up much space but allow you to store away everything you need when cooking.

Use drawer separators

If you’re like us, you want to keep things organised in the kitchen so you can easily find everything. Drawer separators could prove of great use because they prevent utensils from creating a mess and scattering freely in the drawers. You can drawers with separated areas or upgrade the present cabinets using trays. Measure the drawers and make a scheme of how you want to organise utensils before purchasing any basket.

Group items

A key step in keeping your kitchen organised and functional is to group the items into specific categories to find things easier. This way, you’ll know exactly where to head when you need something and won’t take everything out searching for a particular utensil.

Install mounted storage on the backsplash

There’s a whole area empty that could enable you to clear the kitchen island and countertop. You only need a couple of hooks and rails to create some holding solutions for large utensils and items you use in the kitchen. You can easily mount the rails on the kitchen backsplash and stack away the spices, dishware, cloths, and everything else you use daily.

Make use of hooks

If you don’t have hooks installed around the kitchen, now is the ideal moment to add them because they add extra storage space. You can easily park the cutting boards, kitchen towels, and even potted greeneries on the hooks placed on your backsplash or the sides of the kitchen island. The great thing about them is they position everything within’ arm’s reach, so you can easily access them when cooking and cleaning.

Remember

Organising the kitchen might be challenging and time exhausting, but it’ll make your cooking experience more pleasant.
