Top Tips On Cleaning Your Roof Lantern

A roof lantern is a great part of any home as it can bring in a lot of natural light. It’s the perfect way to create a luxurious aesthetic and acts as the perfect focal point.

However, in order for your roof lantern to keep bringing in all of that glorious sunshine, it’s important to ensure that it’s kept clean and that it’s well-maintained. If your roof lantern is looking a little bit old and tired, instead of replacing your roof lantern, why not try giving it a good clean. You may find that it looks as good as new after a few simple cleaning duties.

In this article, we will go over a list of top tips on how to clean your roof lantern.

Cleaning The Exterior of Your Roof Lantern

Cleaning the exterior of your roof lantern can be quite tricky. We recommend using a sturdy ladder and having someone else on hand to hold the ladder while you work. When on the ladder, it’s important that you never apply pressure by standing or leaning on the lantern. If you’re worried about your safety or anything else involved with cleaning the exterior of your roof lantern, it’s recommended that you choose a professional cleaning service to complete the work for you.

Clean the exterior frame of your roof lantern with a non-abrasive sponge, some warm soapy water, and some glass cleaning products. Never use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as these may damage the roof lantern. Also, avoid using too much soap as this could spill onto the glass and mess with the self-cleaning properties of the glass. If possible, try to dry the roof lantern as much as you can after cleaning with a microfibre cloth to ensure a streak-free finish.

It’s recommended that you clean your roof lantern on a dull, dry day as the sun may cause the glass to dry much more quickly, and this could cause unnecessary streaks.

Cleaning The Interior of Your Roof Lantern

Just like cleaning the outside of your roof lantern, we would recommend that you have someone on hand with you when cleaning the inside of your roof lantern. You will need to use a sturdy ladder with someone at the bottom who can hold your ladder while you’re on it to keep you safe. Move any obstacles out of the way, such as furniture and place an old sheet on the floor to protect it from any potential mess.

Start by using a duster in each of the corners to remove any cobwebs. Clean the interior glass gently using a non-abrasive sponge, some soapy water and a high-quality glass cleaning product. Whenever possible, dry off your roof lantern as you go along with a microfibre cloth so that you can achieve a clear, streak-free finish.

It is recommended that you clean your roof lantern every two or three months to keep it looking as good as new and to keep it bringing in as much sunlight as possible.
