Vintage 50s style…without the mothballs
As a lover of vintage clothes, I love nothing more than a trawl around Charity and second hand shops, jumble sales and car boot sales, in order to uncover an original bargain. But I know this is not the case for everyone. Many people are put off by the idea of rumaging through old clothing, especially if it is unwashed, whilst others just don’t like the idea of wearing something that once belonged to a stranger. Luckily, these days, you can get the retro look without actually having to wear vintage pieces.
Retro fashion has become a big fashion story in recent years, with brands like Chi Chi London selling luxurious, full skirted dresses that look like they comes direct from Grace Kelly’s wardrobe. Other brands, like Vivien of Holloway, offer everything from retro wedding attire, to kitsch 50s looks that just require a jukebox and a milk bar to transport you back to 1955. Even brands that seem to concentrate on looks that are very ‘now’ can sometimes surprise with their marketing and d campaigns, which seem to come from a very different era. A case in point is the latest Ted Baker collection, where the model clad in beautiful floral designs looks like she is sitting in a French Riviera hotel in the 1950s, it is just so chic and elegant.
Whether you want to go all out in your vintage 1950s styling, with Marilyn Monroe tresses and a beauty spot, or just want to add a vintage touch in the form of a retro bag or accessories, the High Street and online ranges mean that this is something you can do without setting foot in a Charity or Vintage shop. This is vintage styling, but without a mothball in sight.

I do love authentic vintage, but it can be a nightmare to find good stuff and takes a lot of effort. Chi Chi Clothing have some absolutely gorgeous dresses to get the style though!

What pretty dresses. I don’t mind buying from charity shops but only unworn stuff with tags on, otherwise I feel a little odd about wearing someone else’s stuff. Although I have bought things on Ebay before x

These dresses are all so pretty. Vintage styles never look right on me so I always have to admire them on people who can pull them off. I am eyeing up the Ted Baker Carsyn skirt but I already know it’ll look horrendous on me. A girl can dream though right?!
