What to do in Tenerife
When it comes to popular holiday destinations for both Summer and Winter Sun holidays, Tenerife is a place that is always near the top of the list. The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is blessed with beautiful beaches and vibrant resorts that make it a perfect holiday destination for couples, families and young singles. Tenerife is also the home to two World Heritage Sites, and is also brilliant for those who want to indulge in water sports.
I’ve compiled a short guide to some of the unmissable attractions that you will want to add to your to-do list if you are visiting Tenerife this Summer.
Mount Teide
No trip to Tenerife is complete without a visit to the tallest Mountain in Spain. Mount Teide National Park is one of the two World Heritage sites in Tenerife, and the views from the top of the Mountain are just stunning, with Gran Canaria visible . There are also enormous volcanic craters to admire, with the landscape often described as Lunar. In Summer the heat can be stifling, so the best way to reach (almost) the top is by cable car.
Santa Cruz
If shopping is your thing, then you must pay a trip to Tenerife’s capital ciry, Santa Cruz. There you will find El Corte Ingles, the huge Spanish department store that seems to house literally everything you want to buy, and also Centro Comercial Santa Cruz – Santa Maria del Mar, which is considered to be Tenerife’s best shopping centre and home to many well known names.
Santa Cruz is like most capital cities in that it has a cosmopolitan feel, with lots of bars, great restaurants and good hotels. An open top bus tour is a great way to take in all that the city has to offer, whilst topping up the tan too!
Masca
Masca may have once been a pirate hideaway, or so legend has it, but these days it is a definite must visit for those who love to visit (and photograph) places that can only be described as incredible. The tiny village is situated at the foot of the Teno Mountains and is quite difficult to get too, but if you have your camera in hand this place should not be missed.
