Where to Find Great Vintage Clothing and Jewelry

Antique clothing and jewelry are back in style if you haven’t noticed. Even many jewelers and clothing brands today are creating designs similar to what was worn in the past. While it is nice to look at, it can be a lot to take in especially if you don’t where to shop for these items. If you want to get into vintage jewelry here are some of the best places to look.

Look Online

Going online is the first place many people go to nowadays, and for good reason. You can find some good pieces online from online sellers such as eBay and Etsy. Both of these websites are filled with antique jewelry for sale. Methods of payment can vary. Sometimes you can barter with the seller and lower the price, other times the prices are firm. Some are auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Specialized Antique Jewelry Sellers

Antique shops are a good place to find vintage clothing and antique estate jewelry for sale. Antique shop owners are generally very knowledgeable about what they have in store so expect to pay a pretty penny. But you can expect to find some quality antique clothing and jewelry that are in good shape here.

Pawn Shops

Plenty of people pawn their old vintage jewelry and sometimes clothing for quick cash. While just about every pawn shop sells vintage jewelry, clothing is usually limited. If you’re looking for vintage t-shirts and jeans you’d be better looking elsewhere. Now if you’re looking for vintage designer clothing and fur coats then a thrift store is more up your alley. Regardless of what you’re looking for, prices are usually high but you can usually talk the price down a little bit. Just don’t expect to get the deal of a lifetime because that probably won’t happen.

Thrift Stores

Searching through thrift stores is another good source for vintage jewelry and clothing, particularly college sweatshirts, although you’re very likely going to have better luck with clothing here than jewelry. The key to finding anything vintage at a thrift store is to ask the store when they restock the shelves with new items. Also, if you can, try to go during the weekday as more people tend to shop at thrift stores during the weekend. Following those two rules greatly increase your chances of finding any vintage clothing or jewelry before anyone else gets their hands on it.

Neighborhood Yard Sales

Like thrift stores, going to a yard sale doesn’t guarantee that you’ll find any vintage clothing or jewelry but there is a chance you can. And if you can, you can usually buy it for cheap. Items at a yard sale are priced to sell quickly so if you feel like taking the plunge, make sure you go out as early as possible so that no one grabs any potential vintage items before you do. If the item is still too much you can usually talk to the owner and see if they’ll sell it to you at a lower price.

Auction Houses

If you’re up to the challenge, you can try betting on vintage items in an auction house. The clothing and jewelry in auctions are usually top-notch, so expect to pay a lot. This is different than betting online, as it is much quicker and more intense. Also, unlike online auctions, you can physically see the items you’re betting on firsthand before betting so you have a better look. This option is definitely not for everyone but you can potentially find some unique items this way provided you have enough money to wager.
