ABBA Voyage – What A Show!

This year was one of those when I had a special birthday. You know, one of those milestone birthdays that I personally would rather not acknowledge, but hey oh! One of my presents (from the hubby) was tickets to see the extraordinary ABBA live show, ABBA Voyage, and this Sunday was, finally, the big night. I was not disappointed. The show is incredible, a real treat, for ABBA fans, and for those who are frankly, not so keen (aka the hubby).

The show is a virtual concert residency , due to stay in the East End until at least May 2025. The concert features digital avatars and use vocals re-recorded by the group in a Swedish studio specifically for this show, accompanied by a 10 piece live instrumental band on stage. It is clever and innovative, and totally shows why ABBA, and their music, stands the test of time.

This is like a real concert, with crowds totally caught up in the atmosphere, which, it has to be said, was immense. The virtual ABBA interact with the audience, so it becomes easy to fall into the belief you are really seeing the band, especially as they are accompanied by a real life band. The song choices are a cool mix of the most famous hits, some lesser known songs like The Eagle, and a couple of the new songs. The show has everything you would want, including incredible lighting, and lots of costume changes.

My own personal favourite section was the disco section, where the band performed the likes of Gimme, gimme, gimme, Summer Night City and Voulez Vous. The final song, ‘The Winner takes it all’ is always so beautiful and emotional. It leaves hardly a dry eye in the house and is such a fitting finale.

ABBA Voyage is sensational. A must see for any ABBA fan, a trip back to the 1970’s that you should not miss.
