BAFTA 2015 – The Best Looks
Last night was the most glittering occasion on the British movie calender, when Stephen Fry yet again took to the podium to present the BAFTA awards. In recent years the glitter has become even starrier, as more and more American and International stars make their way to London in what is seen to be a good pointer for the Academy Awards.
Last night we had American Royalty walking the red carpet, with Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon and Ethan Hawke all making an appearance. European stars Lea Seydoux, Naomi Rapace and Monica Belluci also made the trip to London, with Lea my absolute first choice for best dressed, in an exquisite yellow gown from Prada that had skin flashing panels yet remained totally elegant. Her hair and make up was also perfection – think 30s Hollywood glamour.
Other stars caught the eye with beautiful looks. Smethick’s Julie Walters was simply stunning, at 64 she was wearing a dress that many decreed as the best on the night, including Fearne Cotton who proclaimed that she want that dress and Rosamund Pike’s bob (I have to say Rosamund’s dress was another disappointment.) Felicity Jones continued that fabulous run in ultra pretty Dior, whilst Amy Adams went ultra modern in white Lanvin.
Another favourite was Romola Garai in Roksanda. I know this will be a marmite look, but those gorgeous ice cream shades, the beautiful cut of the full skirt and the pretty cuffs of the blouse make this a hit for me. Another style icon, Laura Bailey, chose a subtle, yet beautiful dress from Emilia Wickstead. I would love to see a sunshine yellow version of this on Kate Middleton, another Wickstead fan.
I have picked out my favourite looks from the night and featured them below, but also wanted to give a special mention to Kristen Scott Thomas. The eternally beautiful actress looked exquisite in a 1948 Balmain dress from William Vintage, proof that a perfect dress really does stand the test of time.
