Cirque Du Magique – Exhilarating Fun
The grand tradition of circus and the magic show has been given a new lease of life by Cirque Du Magique. Lead by the wonderfully talented Richard Cadell, Cirque Du Magique is a genuinely exhilarating ride through the world of magic, illusion and circus skills, all delivered with style and panache. This brilliant show for the whole family opened in Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre for a three night run last night, and totally thrilled the audience, who were often on the edge of their seat for the death defying stunts.
Richard Cadell is a seasoned performer who is probably best known for his work on with Sooty (you can read an interview with Richard here). However, in this show, Richard is the master illusionist, taking his cues from such diverse fayre as Harry Houdini, and the horror film Saw. His illusions are exciting and have a danger to them, meaning you cannot take your eyes from the stage for one minute. His is ably supported by a team that includes other magicians, Taylor Morgan aka The Manipulator, and Rebecca Foyle as The Sorceress, both bringing something unique to the show. Alex McAleer, a mind reader, brings warmth and humour to his frankly astounding feats that seem to defy just guesswork.
As well as magicians, the show has performers who work in the greatest tradition of the circus. I loved the brilliance of the Duo Rock ‘n’ Rollers, who show super human strength and skill in their work, which is all done on roller skates, whilst David Adams literally disappeared into the heights of the stage with his amazing chair balancing that certainly had me holding my breath. There was also an amazing depth of talent from Ezra Veldman as Diablo, and the wonderful Alexandra Matter is a dream with her hula hoop act.
Everything about this show is shiny, glamorous and flawless. It has the audience involved totally, whether through actual participation, or just holding their breath wondering what will come next. The time flies, when it comes to an end, you are left wanting more. Cirque Du Magique may just be the perfect family night out. Highly recommended.
