Creating A Tranquil Bathroom Space
We’ve all seen those dream bathrooms in the movies and television, the spaces where you could happily while the hours away relaxing in hot soapy suds, thinking about absolutely nothing. I’m thinking of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Cleopatra bathing in asses milk, Blair in Gossip Girl surrounded by candles, and even Taylor Swift, bathing in a mass of jewels. But while we may not be able to afford the enormous tub, the asses milk or a zillion candles there are things to we can do to our bathroom in order to create our own tranquil, luxurious space.
So how do you go about creating your own perfect space, a place where you can shut the door on the worries of the world, relax your aching bones at the end of a long, hard day, and clear your mind of all your troubles, if only for an hour or so? The first thing you need is a bath, for me, a shower is great for reviving, but not so much for relaxing. Walk In baths from the likes of Max Home are amazing, and can also add the option of massage jets and heated seats to make this the ultimate in relaxing experiences. You then just need to fill it to the top with something luxurious, from a brand like Molton Brown or L’Occitaine.
Another way to make your bathroom a luxurious space is to create an illusion of space. Bathrooms can be one of the smaller rooms in your home, but using mirrors, which are an integral part of any bathroom can make even the smallest room seem more spacious. Luxury bathroom mirror cabinets are also multi functional as they can give you lots of space for your lotions and potions, as well as providing a great area for grooming.
Underfloor heating is out of most people’s price range, but the idea of getting out of the loveliest soothing bath and then stepping onto a cold, tiled floor is so not appealing. A way around this is to splash out on a luxury bath mat. Luxurious could mean opting for a designer label like Missoni, or choosing a mat that has deep pile so that when you step onto it your feet sink. I love cotton yarn mats from John Lewis that are both silky soft and long lasting.
Candles may seem like an obvious cliche when it comes to creating a tranquil space, but they can be mood enhancing, and, teamed with a heady, hedonistic fragrance, they can also aid relaxation. Avoid cheap synthetic scents and give yourself a treat by choosing something from Jo Malone or Diptyque instead. At different times of the year you can also find holiday based fragrances that may not only relax you, but also leave your feeling decidedly festive too.
Now your bathroom is complete, a space where you will be able to capture a little bit of peace and quiet regardless of what is happening in the outside world. There’s just one thing left to do, grab a glass of fizz and keep pouring in those bubbles.
