Darcey Bussell Style
Yesterday the news broke that former ballerina Darcey Bussell had quit the judging panel on the BBC’s flagship show, ‘Strictly Come Dancing‘. As a fan of Strictly, and as a fan of Darcey I’m sad to see her go. Darcey always added a touch of class and elegance to the proceedings, especially as the male judges descended into histrionics (Bruno) and pantomime baddie (Craig). Darcey was the most glamorous person on Saturday night telly and Strictly will be a lesser place without her calm, kind and constructive judging.
As a judge on Strictly, Darcey had a wardrobe that gave me dress envy each week. She could do full length and fabulous like no other and was the queen of the slinky evening gown. She could wear sequins without looking like a cabaret act of drag queen, but when she toned down the look, she literally oozed elegance.
Darcey has been quick to cool off rumours that her departure had anything to do with the scandalous stories of the show that plagued the last series, or that she had been increasingly fed up with the over the top persona of Bruno. Recently she had branched out into presenting documentaries, including one about one of her own personal heroines, Audrey Hepburn, so this may be the way her career path goes, but Saturday’s nights will sure miss her, and she will be a hard act to follow.
Darcey Bussell Style
Whether lighting up the screens on Saturday Night, or shining on the Red Carpet, Darcey rarely gets it wrong style wise. I love the glamour and elegance of her wardrobe, the way she rocks a classic little black dress and her use of pillar box red lipstick. There are no short skirts, Darcey always looks a total lady, a throwback to matinee idol style, but never frumpy and always modern.
