The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and that gorgeous cutie Prince George have arrived in New Zealand for their much anticipated tour, with Kate totally wowing in bright and vibrant red. On the windiest of days, the Duchess opted for a designer that harked back to previous royal tours of Australia and New Zealand by wearing a design from the design house of Catherine Walker.
Catherine Walker, was, of course, the favourite designer of Diana, Princess of Wales. The press have already picked up on this, with some suggesting this is another tribute to Prince William’s mother. I’m not so sure of this, I think Kate chose red as a vibrant choice that would stand out as she made her first appearance on this tour. Kate is a fan of red, wearing the colour on many occasions, so it is not necessarily such a surprising choice for her to choose red.
The coat and pillbox hat looked fantastic, the double breasted, almost military style cut was great for Kate, looking chic and elegant. The pillbox hat by Gina Potter reminded me a little of styles that have been worn by style icons of the past – from Jackie Kennedy to Audrey Hepburn, and was a young retro style that suited Kate.
Earlier, Kate had been photographed at Sydney Airport wearing a different outfit, a Max Mara dress she had worn early in her pregnancy last year. This wrap style dress is a perfect choice for traveling, stretchy and therefore comfortable, but still sophisticated and elegant for facing the World’s press.
