Family Days Out: Stourport On Severn

When I was a kid growing up in the 1980’s my family used to absolutely love a day trip to Stourport on Severn. The combination of the gorgeous river setting.combined with all the fun of the fair was a fabulous way to spend a family day.

2020 has been the strangest of years, and whilst our usual foreign holidays have been out of the question, we have enjoyed lots of lovely family days out. So, last week, we decided to revisit this particular childhood haunt. The sun was shining and we had the loveliest of days, all socially distanced of course.

The great thing about Stourport is that it is made for sunny days. You can take a long, leisurely walk along the river bank enjoying the beautiful scenery, or you can sit and relax in one of the many riverside shelters. You can enjoy the bandstand, and take a picnic, it really is a place to enjoy the great outdoors. There are also numerous riverboat trips that you can enjoy, from the large steamer style, to mini boats perfect for families.

There is much to enjoy in the way of wildlife as the river Severn has lots of swans and a variety of ducks who call it home.

But Stourport is not just about natural beauty. There is a traditional funfair with everything from dodgems to a ferris wheel, and also smaller coin operated rides and an amusement arcade. The arcade has been organised to enable social distancing, with certain machines not open to leave space, but for children who have been deprived of so much fun this year, this feels like a bit of normality and a real treat.

The town itself is a short walk away from the fair and river, and has some interesting buildings, some of which date back to the Georgian era, and others which are sympathetic reproductions that keep the graceful elegance of the town intact.

We enjoyed our day out in Stourport so much we are planning another one next month.

Sharing is caring!

Welcome to the world of fashion-mommy, a world of fashion, lifestyle, theatre and fun. Enjoy the ride.
