Happy birthday to the Gudrun Sjoden Stripy Top

It has been 35 years since Scandinavian design legend Gudrun Sjoden first produced her classic striped top. That first order consisted of an order for just 30 tops in 3 different colour ways, a test to see how well received the garment would be. Since then, the design has become a total classic, with over 300,000 tops being sold around the world. It is an integral part of the Gudrun Sjoden story, whatever the season,  and shows how true, good design is able to stand the test of time.

As a huge fan of Gudrun Sjoden for quite some time, I was recently asked if I would like to review the most recent version of the classic striped top, the long-sleeved, eco-cotton striped.  This is available in a great range of colour ways, including a variety of blue and pink mixes, but I went for a classic Breton style in ecru and black.  I was really happy to review this piece as I have some varieties of Gudrun’s stripy tops in my wardrobe and have always found them to be everyday luxuries, something that you can wear every day, but looks so luxurious in  the softest of cotton that you actually feel good when wearing them.

DSCN5241[1]The top is fabulous and I’ve been wearing it to death since it entered my wardrobe. The first thing I love is the fit, the soft cotton stretches beautifully making it oh so comfortable to wear. It is also warm , a total godsend on the school run on chilly mornings. It is also non-crease, so yes, on one morning when I overslept, it was just lifted from the bedroom floor where I’d tossed it and it still looked crisp and stylish.

DSCN5243[1]The top is very versatile, it looks great teamed with jeans and skinnies for a cool, everyday look. I added a statement necklace and lippy to dress it up slightly for a family meal, but I think you could also wear this tuck into a pencil skirt and belted for a more elegant evening look. The top looks great under a biker leather aka Madonna in ‘Papa don’t Preach’ and also under a smart black blazer for a nautical, yacht club look.

This top is also a really great fit. Arms are the right length and not too tight, Top is slightly below waist length for those, like me, who hate their tummies. The neckline is flattering with a slight scoop, not cleavage flashing, not sitting too high up the neck. All in all, perfect.
