Must See Movies 2016

Who doesn’t enjoy a trip to the movies? Despite the fact that we have televisions that are almost the size of small movie screens in our homes, a trip to the cinema is still something to enjoy, whether you are doing this as a family, on a date night, or having an evening with the girls (or lads). And whether you are enjoying a classic black and white movie at the Electric Cinema, a premiere in Time Square, or the latest superheroes at a cinema in Cairns, a movie night is a universal, multi-national treat that we can all enjoy.

I have made a short list of some of the great films that are in cinema’s at the moment, or coming later in the year. These are films that need popcorn, nachos and the comfy seats.

The BFG

I have heard so much fantastic word of mouth about this film, which is destined to be another Steven Spielberg classic. With Mark Rylance making a very loveable and believable friendly giant, this is a magical film that I am trying to find time to enjoy.

The Girl on the Train

This has been one of the best books I have read this year, and the film version, with Emily Blunt in the lead role of the troubled Rachel Watson, looks amazing, although I think the action has been moved to the USA. Let’s hope that this film version is another Gone Girl.

Me before you

I haven’t read the JoJo Moyes book, which I know is a real weepy, and I may have missed the boat when it comes to watching this movie in the cinema, but Emilia Clarke is just so photogenic, and her wardrobe in this movie, from the stills and clips I have seen, is frankly amazing, so this may be one I have to catch on DVD at some point.

T2

OK, so this really shouldn’t be on the list, as it won’t be on general release until February next year, but I am super excited about the return of Renton, Spud, Sick Boy, Diane and Begbie in the sequel to Trainspotting, T2, based on the novel Porno by Irvine Welch. The original is still one of my favourite movies of all time, so I’m really hoping this doesn’t disappoint.
