Reviewed – Print Jersey Dress from Curvissa
Curvissa is one of the foremost brands currently spearheading the growth market of stylish clothing for plus size ladies. I first became aware of the brand at the Plus size Fashion Weekend, where lots of woman were having fun styling the Curvissa mannequins in a range of outfits that ranged from cool and edgy to elegant and classic. Curvissa have a great range that appeals to a wide range of ladies, and I was dying to find out more about the brand.
Then I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to choose and review a dress from the current Summer range. There was a lot of choice, but I finally opted for a dress that I felt was a real slice of tropical summer fun, and that also resembled designs from the late, great Lily Pulitzer, a lady who truly understood the art of summer dressing. The dress I chose was the Print Jersey Dress, which is available online now at the price of £35.
This dress is your perfect pack-in-the-suitcase summer holiday dress. In a very light jersey, it has a drawstring that could sit on the waistband (check out the model wearing it here) but on a busty lady like me will give the dress an empire line feel, which makes it really comfortable to wear. The length was just very slightly above the knee, and the skirt has a really nice fit and flare style that makes it both great as a sundress, but also elegant enough to wear for work during the summer months. Arm holes are cut generously and don’t dig in, and the scoop neckline is flattering, but not too low to make this something that couldn’t be worn for smarter occasions.
I styled this dress two ways. The first way was to show this as a sundress, perfect for holidays and warm summer days. I added yellow Swedish Hasbeans and a long shell necklace from Oasis to add to the holiday feel. This was my 1960s, Lily Pulitzer barbecue look and it was really cute and comfortable to wear.
The second way I styled this was to make it a smarter option for more formal occasions. I swapped the sandals for a mustard wedge shoe, changed the shell necklace for a string of wooden white and gold beads from Wallis, and added a yellow cardigan which I think was a good way of covering arms and shoulders for work environments. I teamed with clashing yellows to play up the tropical nature of the dress, but you could also pick out any of the colours from within the dress itself, or team with white for a fresh look.
This is a great and versatile dress to have in your summer wardrobe, and one which I truly believe you will get a lot of wear out of this summer. To visit Curvissa and view more of its summer dress collection, click here.
