New Season Trends – The Midi Length at Dorothy Perkins

It was the length that everyone said was unwearable unless you were as tall and willowy as Elle MacPherson. It makes you look frumpy and mumsy the magazines screamed. But the midi has proven everyone wrong, proving to be versatile, flattering and most definitely the chosen length for Autumn/Winter 2013/4.

Midi skirts look fabulous with knee high boots for a look that evokes all the images of the fabulous and stylish 70s movie, The Eyes of Laura Mars. The Midi is a grown up look, looking great with silk blouses or worn boho style in fabrics like cord and denim. It is also brilliant, if, like me, you like your legs, but only from the knees down. You are not encased in swathes of fabric like in a maxi skirt, but also not showing off acres of flesh a la mini skirts.

Dorothy Perkins is totally embracing 70s chic midi skirts in its new season styles and I am totally smitten with the look.

Debenhams A/W Press Day 2013/4 – so much variety

It was in a new venue, but the Debenhams press day was as glamorous as ever, showcasing a range of beautiful evening wear, gorgeous winter coats, and a great range of accessories. All the designer ranges were there in force, with Jonathan Saunders, Jenny Packham and Julian MacDonald, amongst others showing that Debenhams persists as a destination you must visit when you are looking for serious occasion dressing.

This being the Autumn/Winter collection, there was a real emphasis on that perfect dress for party season. 1930s bias style dresses were juxtaposed with 1950s floral prom styles. Meshing and net details were in abundance, whilst interesting prints featuring larger than life diamonds and gems were also a feature. Interestingly, no one colour dominated, this was a full palette of shades that ranged from monochrome to the pinks that would have made Schiaparelli smile.

Bright Light Press Day – Fabulous brands, Fabulous fashion.

May is always a busy time in fashion, with many of the top High Street and designer brands hosting their press previews for the upcoming Autumn/Winter season. I was lucky enough to receive an invite for the Bright Light PR press day that was held in the The Gallery, Soho,  last week. Bright Light represent a host of fabulous brands, from Lands’ End and Closet Clothing, to Damsel in a Dress and Olsen, so it was bound to be a great event full of  interesting ranges.

And so it proved to be. Here are some of the highlights from the different collections showcased on the day.
