Screen Producers Guild Awards – The Best looks

Ahead of the Screen Actors Guild awards, we have had the Screen Producers Awards, which were another feast for my fashionista eyes. Unusually, a lady who I think has been absolutely nailing it on the red carpet at the moment, Anne Hathaway, didn’t make my top five in a pretty floral dress that was lovely, but more summer wedding than January red carpet. Also not making my list was Amanda Seyfried, who chose to wear gorgeous zesty orange, but in a creased and ill-fitting dress.

But there were some real movie stars out there too. Here are my favourite five of the night.

Julianna Margulies was a 1940s movie siren just waiting to lure Robert Mitchum to his doom. With her vampish make-up and Veronica Lake hair, Julianna could’ve appeared straight from the set of an Otto Preminger movie. The dress, fittingly was vintage, and the whole look summed up why I just adore Julianna’s style on the red carpet.

Jessica Alba is another style favourite of mine, so when she chooses to wear one of my favourite designers, Elie Saab, you just know this is going to be a match made in fashion heaven…and it so was!

The black lace design was like the sexiest merry widow get up ever, and Jessica wisely kept her accessories to a minimum with this design. A total showstopper.

Kerry Washington has been making real style waves of late. I loved her look at the Golden Globes, and think this lingerie style dress is another winner. The dress, from Marchesa, could’ve seemed a bit showgirl on another celebrity, but Kelly’s choppy hairstyle, use of pink accents and simple elegant heels made this a totally wonderful look.

Jennifer Garner is an actress who has become increasingly classic in her style choices. I loved this frilly cocktail dress by Oscar De La Renta. It might seem a simple look at first glance, but this dress is absolutely exquisite up close, with a brocade style print and structured frill detail. I also love her Kate Middleton hairstyle.

In a sea of very elegant black dresses came Hannah Simone in a sea of blue.  This was just fabulous – the Sofia Vergara moment of the night. Hannah’ s dress was super sexy in a Jessica Rabbit way, and by keeping accessories to a minimum, she let the dress just speak for itself and ensured the vintage style dress looked ultra modern.

Kate goes to Hollywood…in Alexander McQueen

It was the night all Kate fans had been looking forward to, and the Duchess of Style didn’t disappoint. Kate looked absolutely amazing as she promoted two of British fashions biggest brands, Alexander McQueen and Jimmy Choo.

Kate wore a beautiful Grecian style full length dress in lilac, with a silver white cumberband at the waistband. It had a style reminiscent of Fortuny pleats and looked very ethereal and floaty. She accessorised with stunning diamond chandelier earrings that were said to have been borrowed from The Queen, and an amazing (and high!) pair of silver Jimmy Choo vamp sandals and a matching clutch bag.

In a room full of movie stars, Kate was simply the brightest and most beautiful of them all. She looked totally goddess-like, especially when compared to the seriously underdressed Jennifer Lopez. But there were some other stars showing off some seriously beautiful dresses. One of the best dressed was a radiant Nicole Kidman in a glorious silver dress by Elie Saab, with a deep draped back this was one of her best looks for a long time.

I also loved the royal blue dress worn by Jennifer Garner, and the Reem  Acra dress worn by British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw, definitely one of the best dressed on the night. Blake Lively wore an exquisite sari-style dress by Marchesa, in a lavender shade similar to Kate’s, whilst Mary Louise Parker looked fabulous in a red Dolce and Gabbana mermaid style dress. I also looked the kooky prettiness of Zooey Deschanel’s Oscar De La Renta midi length dress.
