The Play That Goes Wrong – Hilarious From Start To Finish
British Comedy has a long tradition of slapstick and farce. From Jeeves and Wooster, to Monty Python, from Benny Hill to The Young Ones, British Comedy always has the ability to send itself up, to be slightly anarchic and to understand that, no matter what goes wrong, the show must go on. That tradition is now in the safe hands of Mischief Theatre and their comic creation, The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, in the side splittingly funny ‘The Play that goes wrong’ which had its opening night at The Alex, Birmingham last night. ‘The Play that goes wrong’ is exactly what it says on the label. The Cornley Polytechnic Drama…

Club Tropicana Brings Fun And Sunshine To Wolverhampton
If your musical tastes tend to lead to the decade of shoulder pads, Dynasty, Ra Ra skirts and Wham, then you really need to make sure you check out ‘Club Tropicana’, the bright and shiny ode to 1980s package holidays that opened at the Wolverhampton Grand last night. Full of classic 80s songs by the likes of ABC, Aha, Cyndi Lauper and Depeche Mode, and with an hilarious, scene stealing performance by veteran comedienne Kate Robbins, Club Tropicana brings fun and sunshine in spades, and had its approving audience dancing in the aisles. Olly and Lorraine are about to get married, when Lorraine gets cold feet and jilts Olly at…

Tom Gates Live On Stage – Great Fun
I have to start this review with a confession – I had no idea who Tom Gates was before last week. My ten year old son was a totally different proposition however, whilst I was fumbling to remember the surname of the Tom I was going to review, he told me straight away and gave me a potted history of the character. I was thoroughly educated about Tom, Norman, Delia and the Dog Zombies. Consider myself told. Tom Gates is currently live on stage at The Alexandra Theatre, a new show from Birmingham Stage Company and the acclaimed author and illustrator Liz Pichon , and if you have a tween then…

Miles Jupp Is Wonderful In ‘The Life I Lead’
David Tomlinson is a face that is familiar to everyone who watched ‘Mary Poppins‘, or ‘Bed knobs and Broomsticks’, during their childhood. Disney’s epitome of an upper class English gent, or an upper class twit if you were not so kind, Tomlinson was decency and the stiff upper lip personified. But now, in ‘The Life I Lead’, comedian and actor Miles Jupp has brought Tomlinson back to stunning, vibrant life, and shows there was far more to the actor than foil for Julie Andrews. ‘The Life I Lead’, which opened at the Birmingham Rep Theatre last night, is a real tour de force for Jupp, a one man show where…

Ghost The Musical – Beautifully Heartbreaking
It is one of the most iconic movie love stories and translates beautifully onto the stage. Ghost The Musical may well be the best show you can see to open 2019 theatre season. Hauntingly beautiful, spine-chilling and heart-breaking, Ghost, which is now showing at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, paints pictures that linger in the memory long after it’s emotional finale. In short, it is a memorising piece of theatre. The story is true to the film, Sam and Molly are the young couple with a perfect present and a promising future. All this comes to a sudden and violent end when Sam is murdered, seemingly in a mugging incident…
