The perfect yellow dress from Kaliko

If there was any further evidence needed that sunshine yellow is the colour to be seen in this season, then the site of the Duchess of Cambridge emerging from hospital holding the gorgeous Princess Charlotte was all that just that. She looked amazing in a yellow floral print dress from Jenny Packham, and when, two nights later, I took a stunning yellow lace dress from Kaliko for a test drive, I was told I was wearing the ‘Middleton yellow.’

The double layer dress is a bit of a departure for Kaliko this season. Many of their dresses have a 1950s feel with full skirts and prom styles – they wouldn’t be out of place in Grace Kelly’s wardrobe. This dress however, is more Jackie Kennedy than Grace Kelly. A simple shift style in lace style nylon, it is knee length, sleeveless and has a lovely double layer effect due to a floating bodice. It is cool and stylish for summer, but can also have a 1960s ‘dollybird’ effect when teamed with opaque tights and Mary Janes.

I wore this dress for the press night of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Unfortunately the weather had decided to skip Spring/Summer and return to Autumn, with biting winds and heavy rain. This meant the look I wanted for this dress – strappy gold sandals and accessories – just wouldn’t work.

I think this is a gorgeous dress that just can’t be spoilt, even when a gale force wind manages to transform the hair into a fright wig.
